This morning :: i was approached and without even knowing this was going on immediately knew it was a fraud from the greeting that was sent with the next message asking if i wanted to loan/sell a large list of items i was like B.S. and then the person logged off, pathetic

Just now logged on and someone apparently trolling now with a name playing off of my guild leaders name.

the person who scammed me is still using alternate accounts to log onto the server and is still harassing my friend. In fact they are currently trying to blackmail her as i type this. They have threatened to keep creating alt accounts and logging in with them for the express purpose of harassing her, and ruining her and her guilds reputation unless she pays.
This is being allowed by turbine, but they have the time to patrol the forums, delete my original post and give me a stern warning, but do nothing on the servers.
Unbelievable. I am assuming that this thread will also get pulled, and i will either recieve another warning or a ban.

My friend who was being impersonated has over 40 screenshots of the attempted blackmail, here is one of them http://tinypic.com/r/2ecq0jo/6 .They are forwarding all the screenshots to turbine.
And if you look in turbines ToS under naming policy, it says imitating another player is a ToS violation.

This however, is better. Doing what you can to be proactive instead of complaining about Turbine all the time goes a lot further to support your cause.

So what other alternatives do i have? the imposter is still on the server and are impersonating the bank toon of the guild leader of a high level guild. I cannot name names here, or i will get banned, but the scammer continues to operate, and is gloating about his success.
So they can remove my thread or ban me as they see fit, i have lost any respect i have for turbine over this. And there are more and more disgruntled players on the server who feel exaclty as i do.

this is harrassment. it can be reported and should be able to be stopped by doing so. may take a bit depending on the ticket load the guides are currently working on.

the people who "patrol the forums giving out stern warnings" are not the same people who answer tickets in game.

alert all your friends that someone is scamming and to be doubly and triply sure they are indeed trading with who they think they are, and otherwise ignore the scum-sucking lowlife who's doing the harrassing till he gets found by the GMs and catches a banhammer.

it really sucks this is happening to you, but this here what you did here is not how to take care of it. it's a good way to get YOURSELF banned, unfortunately

I understand you are upset, and rightfully so. Regardless of what was lost or replaced it's lousy someone is trying to scam some of the server using the identity of now a couple of known names.

However, you have to understand why Turbine would need both time and evidence. Anyone can say anything. Proof and evidence are what you need. Turbine needs this to protect folks against wrongful, vengeful actions of folks who would use a twist and get someone innocent banned just because they don't like them/had a bad run with them. A ban on your account is pretty serious, and should be reserved for when there is without a shadow of a doubt. You need to provide Turbine without a shadow of a doubt. And I urge you to follow the advice folks are trying to give ya. Keeping your name clean while providing evidence will make your case stronger.

Your friend needs to (and I'm glad to read they are) be reporting this persistent abuse to Turbine. Each and every time it happens. Take screenshots, and present an airtight case. Being stalked and harassed is awful, and I hope that part of the problem gets resolved ASAP. I've had this happen to a guild-mate in the past, and while it took some time to get it resolved - it was resolved.


Sadly, I think that is the limit to which Turbine will intervene.

They have a long standing policy of not doing a whole lot in peer-to-peer trades, even ones that have gone awry and one person is scammed by the other. "Only trade with people you know and trust," has been their official line since even before the mail system was implemented. It greatly sucks to be conned, and I feel for you. I just don't think Turbine will intervene in this case.

I think you're reading into it wrong. They're talking about people using names to be harassing toward another person. I certainly hope they do not give your stuff back, because the charade seems to be the victim's own fault.

The other part of it, yes is harassment. Naming themselves something similar to someone else does not mean they are violating the naming policy.

Wow. I play on Orien and if someone was doing this to one of the more well known Bank-ers in the game, I would be ballistic. I do not have words for how much this must suck for you all, but all I can say is keep reporting this scum bag and hope that Turbine will take action.

Sorry to say it but 100% your fault. Apparently you need to up your requirements for being 100% certain in the future or this wouldn't have happened. In no way did Turbine cause this and as far as it stands to Turbine, you could have known the person and be trying to get free items. There is no way on their side to prove that the items were actually scammed from you rather than a legit trade unlike a bag being deleted or something that is black and white in a log.

On the other hand, I would keep at trying to get them banned but since you can make f2p accounts fairly easy, it's hard to stop someone forever.

It is also very easy to avoid this. Someone claims to be an alt? Have them log on the REAL main char then send a tell saying this is the alt. Not very hard. They would need access to the real character to do this.

And how do you expect the GMs to know that you are telling the truth and aren't just full of ****. For all they know the other player traded you a TP card and you are the one trying to rip people off.

Ok, now I'm not even sure you are telling the truth at all.

What are they trying to blackmail her with and for what? Maybe you just mean harrassment? If so, that's reportable in game. Of course your guild rep can't be harmed at all because those alts won't have your guild name. Unless this is a guildy, at which point the guild name deserves harm and you should quit the guild.

When you tell someone you will keep rolling alts with a similar name to theirs, represent yourself as them to others, and do everything in your power to smear their reputation and that of their guild unless you give them stuff, thats blackmail. This scammer has been hitting other players, i know i am not the only one, at least 3 people have been fooled by them. They keep rolling alts and keep scamming. They have even gloated about it, my friend has the harassing tells to prove it, and has forwarded them to turbine. The scammer is still on and now has rolled a toon with another guildleaders name plus bank added to it.
Servers keep track of everything, nothing is ever truly lost. Why then can they not fix this?
