Default Best "do it all" combo for 2 novice players?

EDIT: found the Duo Builds thread bellow and it solved it for me. Sorry about crapping up the forum totally missed thread when looking.
    Hi Folks

I have played on and off for a while but not got passed lvl 7, I keep having to restart chars as i loose my builds in between periods of play.

Anyway a friend and I have decided to play together and i was wondering what the best pairing would be, He has never played this before so something simple to play would be good. I have a melee cleric build i could use but he wants a magic user and we need some rogue skills in there too.

So any thoughts? i have 32 point builds and can buy drow or any half race while he is totaly free to play atm.

    cheers

I'd say an 18/2 splash of wizard and rogue for magic and traps.

I think one of the most fun combos is two pure palemaster wizards. My friend and I did it with an elf and a drow and it was good, doing traps is overrated I think if you can get your reflex high enough to ignore them anyway. If you're determined to have trap skills it's easy to start off as a level 1 rogue or artificer and include them. General build plan for each in my sig.

You guys ever play elite? Traps tend to deal mega mondo damage. Plenty enough to kill squishy mages even if you make your save.

Playing two mages could be really, really fun especially if you work together well. But there are certain weaknesses; traps, all the aggro, etc. But if you're aware of the problems, you can probably manage to work it out.

We did yes though we're both very good twitch players and built sturdy toons with good saves. No reason you can't splash rogue if really desired.

Palemasters love aggro and with 2 auras going there aren't many fights that can outpace the self healing a available, even many raids are accessible. That said, probably more fun to run a hard streak or just go normals if you don't know the quests, there's plenty of xp for first life anyway and the game is tricky if you don't know the quests well.

2 Rogue/Wiz and pure Wiz with both going Palemaster would work just fine.

Stick together and let both your auras work.

If you dont plan on doing Elites then both can go pure Wiz with Palemaster.

Just a personal opinion, but two people playing the same (or nearly) character sounds like a bad idea to me for one simple reason - you will be looking for the same loot. A caster focused and a melee focused pair seems like it would be better for starting off so that you can make the best use of the loot you guys find instead of having to buy/farm doubles.

A warforged melee/heal Favored Soul with low charisma and wisdom but high str and con plus a warforged Wizard 18/Rogue 2 who maxes int and con can cover everything. You can heal each other, too. Although I honestly would recommend a pure Wizard rather than going for the Rogue levels, since traps are a small part of the game. It's much better handled by a melee build that only gives up a little damage, like a Fighter 18/Rogue 2.

It's very, very hard to kill that combo. You have access to all spells and both of you are extremely survivable either with crowd control or sheer toughness and cross healing.

Thanks for all the great replies, The rogue skills are mainly for getting to secret/bonus areas and chests as I hate to run an area and think im missing out on something. Traps are a bonus in my mind as im usually melee and just wade on through.

still need to get our first session under way and decide on classes, will let you know what happens
