The bridge beyond the purple knights challenge (right next to the tavern) used to be walkable. There's a road past it, that had an invisible wall...
Possibly a road somewhere? In one of the interviews I saw and read, Fernando mentioned that they wanted to make the Forgotten Realms explorers and quests more realistic, in the sense that you see where you are going, (the way you can see eveningstar from the forest) as opposed to Eberron, where you teleport everywhere and somehow you're in the Desert (which in the Xen'drik continent map, is very far from Stormreach) Sure, it's an airship, but still, maybe get a nice cinematic of travel or something.
Seeing that road excited me. If you look at the world map while in Eveningstar, you can see mountains and other zones. Look at the character selection screen when you load in to Forgotten realms! To be honest, I'd love a more open world feel to DDO. Keep the outdoor areas instanced, as is DDO's trademark (and a great feature for sure). But be able to travel by foot or mount; with fast travel options for those that are lazy.
I really hope they go in this direction with future updates to DDO FR. I predict that eventually DDO will be split in two: Eberron and Faeurn. Perhaps players will get to pick if they start in Faerun or Eberron, thus locking the other realm, which could be unlockable via purchase or really high favor. I also would like to see gnomes and tieflings (tieflings having the 4th ed look, but the 3.5 idea).
And you guys, any theories?
