DX11 issue

I recently had to reinstall a fresh client and there is no option for DX11 in my settings. I have been running DX11 for sometime now and all things check out on my rig and i have exhausted my sleep deprived knowledge base to resolve this issue...please help

I just put together a new machine (certainly dx11 capable) and downloaded a fresh copy of the client and i too did not see and still cannot see how to escape the clutches of dx9.

I'm also not too bright and didn't look very hard, but just wanted to express some solidarity.

The last time I downloaded the client was right before U14 and I don't have any problems activated dx11. I am surprised about this. But is it possible you accidentally downloaded the low-res version? Might be a dumb question, but you know tech support can often solve problems by asking things like "is your monitor plugged in?"

A valid question but the res version was the first thing i checked because, lets face it i do things like that. I ran dxdiag and it seems to check out and also tried to rename "userpref" file and a repair client start but to no avail.

Helps to post what your GPU is. (directx diags are great for this, and most Turbine reps will ask for that right off the bat)

Some cards are pulling tricks so that it looks like a lesser GPU until the main gaming GPU kicks on. I say this because by the looks/location, the OP is trying to work off a laptop.

A dxdiag (steps how are in the 'how to get help sticky linked in my sig) definitely would help troubleshooting but also I'll include some info that also might help run down possible reasons.

As long as these items are met by the system (and correctly reported to the game) it will detect and ask to enable DX10/11 mode:

- Operating system must be Vista or Win7
- Graphics card model must support it*
- The graphics cards drivers must correctly report it to the system (and thereby DDO)
- DirectX 10/11 must be installed (and fully updated).

* 8XXX/4XX series Nvidia for 10/11 respectively, and 2XXX/5XXX HD Radeon series ATI for 10/11 respectively, though check me on that my ATI card specs are a bit rusty (Edit: Apparently so were my Nvidia specs knowledge, corrected both).

From the game's "point of view" the only thing that can prevent it from seeing this support as long as those criteria above are met is whether it is running in 'compatiblity' mode since the most common method to use that is to have it run in Compatibility mode for XP SP3 (which doesn't support DX10/11 modes).

If you're sure that most of the criteria are being met try this:

- First go here and make sure DX is fully updated (make sure you 'save' the dxwebupdater.exe file to desktop and run it using right-click > run as admin).

- Second go here and under the "I can't enable it.." section perform the steps outlined to check for and disable compatibility mode for the games exe files, all of them since each exe 'inherits' settings from the one that called it previously to launch and the games graphics client is last in line).

- Last, reset the games detected settings by clicking (on the launcher) the second button in the upper-right corner that has the single down-arrow on it, choosing 'options' and under the 'repair' tab clicking to activate the 'reset game display settings' option and clicking ok.

As long as the other criteria are now met the game should 'see' DX10/11 support and ask to enable it.

problem resolved..

I was missing a dx update file. This update was the second step i took, but evidently it was missing some file(s) and the second install did the trick.

ok i've tried useing the fix to allow me to run dx11 but it doesn't seem to work for me.

so i went and ask HP's support for help to fix the problem and here's 99.99% of the conversation(took out personal information and the auto text)

I don't get one. when I long on with the client and try to select my grapic setting to direct X11 it only gives me the option to sellect dx9 or 10 and when i sellect 10 i get a black screen for the character selection screen and not the character i was last on and where they were at last.

and i've tried to troubleshoot the DX driver and it will not let me.

At which point you need to figure out which intel chipset exactly because the note at the top of many a thread....

Translation: Intel is lying and it actually can not do correct Dx 10 nor 11 calls. You are stuck in Dx9. This fault is on Intel. (or is it ms? I forget)

Yep...the G6xx Intel HD GPU only supports directx 10.1...so no dx11 for you.
