Default Issues with installing DDO high-res.

I am experiencing an install error.

Every time at the same point of installation (When Turbine Launcher is installed) it is interrupted with the message:

Installation error. DeleteFile failed; code05. Access denied.

Then deleteFile failed;code 32 if I push ignore.

Once only there was a message metioning I should first install Microsoft visuals C++2005 or something before opening the launcher (which is installed, though). It disappeared then I couldn't start the launcher at all and now I am downloadin DDO for the 3rd time.

    Can anyone help me?

Well, Turbine, I'd like to play your game, so some help is much appreciated.

I am trying to install the Standard res now, if that is not working, I guess I have to search for another MMO .

It sounds like you're having some sort of file permissions issue on your computer. I suspect that repeating installing without trying some suggestions will get the same result. If you google your error you will find that this type of problem can occur from time to time with a wide variety of software products and is not limited to DDO..

Putting aside the C++ redistributable issue for the moment and assuming you installed it, I'd first look to make sure you are running as administrator. Which windows operating system are you running?

If you ARE running as administrator I'd then turn off any Anti-virus / Anti-spyware or file scanning software of any kind, (In fact I'd look in MSCONFIG's startup tab to see what else is being automatically loaded into my computer at startup and disable it if I felt it might have a risk of interfering with file manipulation/software install.)

If that doesn't work, I'd then assume something was messed up with your user account and create a new one with administrator privileges.

How you do these things will vary a little based on which Windows Operating System you're using. Each handles "administrator privileges" slightly differently. I'm using XP.

Also, this may eeem obvious, bot don't forget to restart your PC.

If you have a slow download and want to do more than one install, you can save time by only downloading the image files once and saving them in a special folder somewhere, thus saving you download time each time you want to try to install.

Also, if you wish to get technical help directly from Turbine Technical Support (or give them feedback), I suggest submitting a ticket at http://support.turbine.com. Turbine staff read this forum infrequently, its mostly user support (and some of the users who follow this forum are -very- smart!)

After we know more information we'll be able to suggest further actions in detail...

Yeah, forgot that. Win XP it is.

Updated Windows again and downloading the game again. Foudn some updates were missing maybe now it works. Also, changed to admin. Let's see if it works :I

Thank you for your response, I googled the error message but had too many resposnses which were cryptic to me. The admin status was never a problem since I deinstalled it several times.

I had a harddrive upgrade recently and additonal RAM.

In fact I'd look in MSCONFIG's startup tab to see what else is being automatically loaded into my computer at startup and disable it
How do I do that and what do I have to click there?

Hm, I was under the impression that DDO was supposed to be installed (and run?) as Admin, maybe your user had admin pivileges? I can't remember but when I think back to when I first created all my users I just gave them admin privileges anyway so made it a non issue for me. Also, certain things like disk errors and malware, etc., can corrupt some user files and accounts, so it's not impossible that your account or a folder under it was corrupted somehow.

Anyway, you can do START->RUN->MSCONFIG and select the STARTUP tab to see what's starting up when you start windows. You can disable anything you don't want to load in case it's causing you a problem with this or anywhere else on your system, or if your system is loading a lot of bloated nonsense consuming resources and you simply don't want it running until you ask for it.

There are more advanced tools that can tell you this type of thing in more depth but I would only use those if I thought I had a nasty malware or spyware on my system that tried to be tricky and hide from me. MSCONFIG is a good solid place to start and comes with windows. I've got a lot of things disabled in mine that came with the computer or were loaded without my asking or that I don't want.

I understand about the Googling, many of the references are to software programs that I've never heard of, or to software development projects, I only mentioned them to show that it might not necessarily be something directly related to DDO in particular, so we'd look at the system environment more closely.

Of course, DDO's tech team may have more answers anyway, and if you can't get it working submitting a ticket would be the way to go.

I checked MSCONFIG and of course it is NOT that simple because I can only see programs and tools which never were a problem.

The only thing possible might be a recent Avira update but since microsoft visuals C++ were mentioned before (even if only once) I hope it was just a missing Win XP update.

Thanks for your help anyway, it at least excluded some options which might help finding the culprit faster.

Deleted a scan program which sneaked in and now i got another error message regarding some trial but idc^^. Client is starting and updating. I hope it is done now... if not, I know I still need some Win updates bleh. Thanks man. All fine now.

    Glad yer back!

Yeah, a lot of these problems don't always have one obvious answer, so we have to go down the list of most likely things first to eliminate em, then go to the next, etc.

And in the process I always learn a lot more about my PC then I ever wanted to know.
