Get quicken later. Wont need that until say 18 or so. Instead grab Precise shot there. Why the point into dex? No +3 tome? Get one. APS look ok, KI would lose the concentration and toughness IV and flesh out that force line more. You don't get blade barrier until 15, so front load the repeater feats. at 15 start to worry about that blade barrier damage. It is a short cast animation so I would hold off on quicken. Again, AS is kinda iffy imo. Moving up your feat progression is helped by replacing AS. I'll mess with a planner and post the build. give me 30 or so.

I considered Precise Shot earlier, but from my experience with it, I don't want it until I can take Improved Precise Shot. Is it worth waiting for this, or should I adapt to the way it works? And other than that, I don't have any other repeater feats I can move up.

OK here it is. Now you will need +3 dex tome. But just save up and get it no the A, or use points, not all that hard to get a hold of. Some things, the APs are tight, but there is no fat here. This build generally ignores the dog buffs. so no AS, no uncaring master. Max rune arm, max repeater, max force line. Toughness III and a little UMD.

This is a Repeater/Rune Arm/Blade barrier build. The tomes used reflect the tomes I have on my build. This is essentially what I used except my build is a 36 point build and I took completionist at level 3 and did not take greater evo at the end. I also took adamantine body instead of skill focus UMD. But this is a good build for those without completionist.

Lots of skill points, so i put 'extra' in haggle just because, that is all up to you. Make sure to hit UMD, Search, spot, DD, OL, concentration. rest is up to you.

For now, I'm going to hold on to Augment Summoning. Other than that, how does this feat progression look?

FYI, the builder lists Spell Focus as an artificer bonus feat, but I believe that's incorrect. In your case, that just means you'll have to move SF:Evo to lvl 15 and IPS to lvl 16.

Looks ok, one change, swap empower, quicken and evo focus. that way you have max and empower when you are casting blade barriers. then quicken at 18, then GSF evo. BB is a short animation, so it is not a huge deal getting the quicken later.

I wish I could talk you out of AS but AS instead of Skill focus UMD is not a big deal.

Looks good. I don't know why everyone is saying don't take Augment Summoning. I had it on my Artificer and my dog tanked everything. I got him the Plating, Toughness, Intimidate, and Strength Enhancements. He had over 500 HP at level 16 and barely took any damage, at least nothing I couldn't easily repair. I think I also made him Chaotic Good, just so he would break boxes for me.

The dog makes a very good tank. I advise you to always keep Augment Summoning. It's also very good for anyone who may have 3 Druid Past Lives, since it brings the total increase to +10 everything.

My current arti build is pretty much identical to this, except for the feats. I also dumped the repair skill (for tumble) but as you note the skills are really flavor beyond the trapping essentials, umd, balance, and jump.

Is empower really worth it on an arti, particularly with the spell power changes? The only spell i use it for is blade barrier, as both prismatic strike and tactical detonation are for cc rather than damage. The difference in the new system is that empower gives you an additional 75% of base damage, i.e. 57.5 for a bladebarrier, but this is usually saved against or evaded by mobs as you get into epic content. Note that 57.5 is the final, full benefit (excluding crits) in the new system, which seems minor.

Secondly, what are peoples' thoughts on the inclusion of a body feat for a warforged? Pre-U14, this was clearly sub-optimal, but now having moderate AC may be better than a skill focus UMD, particularly for a wf. One option I've been looking at for this is taking the shadowdancer ED line and taking 3 points in lithe (assuming this works with mithral body). This would give a total +11 dex bonus to your mithral body ac (which is probably at base 14/15 for the L18+ docents, i.e. 9 + 5/6 enhancement bonus). In other words, total base ac around 35-36 including dex and before shield / toughen construct / all the usual buffs. I can easily hit an ac of 50 with trivial self-buffs in heroic levels, and this number can be made much higher by appropriate use of the ED system.

Under the old system, an ac of 50 was a joke, but under the new system there is some damage mitigation at this level which may be worthwhile compared to a fully dumped ac toon.

Adamantine Body is maybe a better option.

Completely agree in the absence of evasion (my current L20 arti has used adamantine body throughout, and I found him to have been fairly resiliant in most content).

The reference to mithral body was really in the context of the shadowdancer tree (which I didn't make clear) and only because evasion doesn't work with adamantine body.

I can't take GSF: Evocation at 20 because it's not an Artificer bonus feat.

If you haven't taken 20 yet, one option is to talk to Fred if you have any feats you took earlier in a normal feat level (1,3,6,9 etc) just before you level and swap out the old feat for GSF, level up and retake your old feat.

I did this with IPS, which I had taken at 15, in order to get GSF at 20.

I haven't even started the character yet. All this is in the planner right now. I want to design the character in a way that I don't need to respec feats as I level.

Why on earth do you have points into DEX?

    INT man, Int.

And, if you take quicken, and spec force, why all the ap in concentration IV? max out that force line. Item defense? what for?

Power Critical being horrible is a pre-U14 attitude that is yet to adjust. It's still not a great feat but one I'd consider taking on an arti if I had feats to spare (which you do). PC adds 2 seeker damage which is 4*4/20=0.8 damage/hit vs 0% fort enemies, not great but every little bit helps.
I agree about blade barrier. That spell is so "useful" in the new content that my evoker went melee as I had minimal options for killing without proper spell pen for my instakills to work very well and enemies just don't move much in the new epics.

As to WF versus not and construct essence versus not...
    1. WF are suitable in all raids. There are raids where my helf artificer after removing construct essence had to be healed by healers because there was too much incoming damage and too fast for scroll healing. Epic dq, abbot and epic lob being such examples. Yes, less dps but far more survivability by a long shot. Might also be because I am not a huge fan of wand whipping and swapping to wands as well as scrolls and all that. And not a fan of sf pots (though on WF life I have access to them funny enough).
    2. Construct essence makes it easier as you are leveling up, but eventually as you gain more tactical expertise with your artificer... Drop it. It ends up sucking your mana like crazy. Heal scrolls heal far better in solo content and most raids. Yes, dq was a minimal problem with CE and a huge problem without it, but sincerely in situations like that go WF or accept that you will need heals from a divine. Solo content was far better without CE.

I have debated 3rd life DEX 18, int 18, con 12, but even with all the gear I balk at the thought. Starting lower and giving up a level-up or two from int to DEX sounds better than 12 con especially on a WF.
    Toons on Orien:
Daemonav Atreides: WF artificer (TR 2/14)////Irullan Atreides: human FvS (TR 2/?!?)////Lorrellei Atreides: human ice/acid sorcerer////Aliademon Atreides: elf PM necro/enchant wizzie (TR 2/8)

This seems to be a reflexive answer, rather than one that considers the actual spell power changes that have been made.

Firstly, quoting BB crits (against which the mob didn't save) is really showing the best possible outcome, and doesn't factor in frequency and evasion.

With the spellpower changes made, empower adds exactly 56.25 damage to a blade barrier (75 * 0.75) on a non-crit. On a crit, assuming the full kinetic line and greater arcane lore, you have a 2.5x multiplier (this is assuming that kinetic lore doesn't affect bb, only arcance lore does, which I think is correct), or 141 damage [note that this is ~10% of the spell damage you listed, i.e. empower as a feat is now adding 10% damage vs. not having it]. Assuming 18% crit chance, this yields expected incremental damage of 72 where the mob doesn't save (36 on a save, 0 on an evaded save).

Blade barrier is the only arti spell you're likely to be throwing around that has empower on it, so you're purchasing this feat purely for that incremental 72 damage. And, as mob saves increase in epic content, you're less and less likely to see that incremental gain fully.

Also note that the more likely scenario is that a geared arti will have both tovens and lucid / archaic, and therefore will not have a 19ap investment into Force. Assuming a 9 pt investment instead (7/1/1), you're now looking at a crit multiplier of 2x including item, and crit likelihood of 13%. These numbers obviously make empower less useful.

My overall point is this: empower is definitely not a no-brainer feat for an arti, and has to be weighed up against what you don't take instead. I'd rather take any +1 DC feat instead of empower for example, because that will make BB's more likely to hit for full rather than half or zero damage, will add to cc capability with prismatic / tactical, and will add to rune arm damage (again via lower save frequency from mobs).
