The "Zynga Doctrine" is described (and criticised) here : http://garethfouche.com/revulsion

This is why I believe they should design new lowest-level quests with all of this knowledge in mind now.

And not let all of this experience exclusively be displayed at high-level players.

Recently, a work mate rolled a toon after seeing how into DDO I am. He played a few hours in Korthos and never logged on again. A couple of weeks later, he mentioned that it looked so old and he'd rather play something with great graphics. All I can do is say it does get better, eventually, and other aspects of the game make up for the graphics... but...the early content does look dated and lo-rez. First impressions are pretty important.

I suppose not having a peak graphics experience at the beginning weeds out people for whom superb graphics is a requirement, thereby eliminating a whole demographic of future forum complainers.

    I disagree.

Because you look at it from the top.

I'm looking at it from the bottom.

A low-level raid would be - of course - contain low-level enemies. Everything would have to be on a much, much, much lower scale, but it could be still there.

It's not that you can't go to your nearest grocery store by foot or by bicycle. It's of course harder, then, it still is feasible to go to the nearest grocery store *not* by car.

In fact, I believe that people become some kind of so much ccustomed to some way of thinking that they don't even know how to do things differently. Why go by foot if there's cars or an underground train ?

Here in Germany hiking becomes a new kind of fashion in travelling, slowly, but steadily. Yes, it is hard, yes, it is slow, yes, it might even cost more (more hotels on the way) - but you see sooooo much more ! You get in direct contact to nature and everything ! You can't be bothered because your cell phone can't be reached deep within woods !

A low-level raid would of cource not include green steel. Bosses would have to be battled with knives, clubs, yes even with claws and teeth, if possible and needed. A +1 protection ring will be a real life-saver !

    It's all there.
You just need to think in much, much, much smaller scales.

Could be right. Just take a look at "modern" MMOs !

"You are a Tiefling. And a Cleric, with the Domain of the Sun. Doesn't that contradict each other ?" "No, all my friends are playing evil. I found that so boring that I decided to be on the good side. And, besides, Sun and Fire, where is the difference, really ?"

And, of course, you just don't get Chronoscope Raids for the levels 5-8. There's ALW>YS some people vastly above it there, because almost all runs there are for loot, not for XP.

From that perspective, The Chronoscope is a perfectly failed low-level. Raid. An excellent case book of "how NOT to do raids for the lowest levels !"

They are just far, far, far too trong for genuinely first-life level 6 charcters, imho.

And everyone who doesn't believe me is a TR'ed one.
I disagree with almost everything you've written regarding Chronoscope.

I always enjoy running Chronoscope at level.

The first time was with an 8-person party full of first lifers levels 4-7 with found gear on normal difficulty. The most recent time was on a 6-person party of 2nd life level 7 TRs on elite.

I find running the raid at level thrilling and fun. I also like the built in mechanic that even if the entire party wipes at the end, they will still be brought back within the quest so they can take another shot at the Abishai.

I think it is a good introduction to the raid mechanic and it has some really nice low level gear. Like most raids (it seems), Chronoscope is run more frequently over level not due to bad design, but due to risk-averse players. If this raid had a level cap of 10 or 12 I think you'd see a lot more 'at level' (or at least close to level) runs of this raid.
