Regarding House Cannith challenge mats......

So I finally grind enough materials from House C challenges to get my level 9 wizzie a level 8 Frozen Tunic. Yay for me! Now it's time to gather mats to upgrade it to tier two........

I need Orthon Plates? But they only drop in level 15 challenges. HUH????

Why is it that a level 8 tier 2 item requires mats you can only get in level 15 challenges? Now, to be sure, I can use my higher level toons to grind out the mats since they are not BTC, but does this make any sense at all? What if I only had one toon? I'd have to wait until at least level 15 to start grinding out the mats, at which point I no longer need a level 8 item!

I have been frustrated by this myself on several occasions... But I will say that it is better than it used to be, as they lowered some of the minimum levels of some of the challenges so you can usually get Tier 1 items @ level.

I think Turbine's "bright" idea in this is for you to continue running those challenges that are your level, but then waste half of the mats you gather by converting them to the higher level mats needed for the upgrades.

I'm not sure you can. IIRC level 8 mats don't convert into level 15 mats, even at a 2:1 rate.

The only viable solution is to run the higher level challenges with higher level toons and then bank all the mats for your lower level toon. I don't think this makes any sense. If we're making a level 8 item, and we want to upgrade it to tier 2 or 3, we shouldn't be required to gather level 15 mats. Upgrading a level 8 item to tier 2 or 3 doesn't raise the level of the item. It's still level 8.

I think this needs to be re-examined. If one wishes to upgrade an item to a higher tier, then one should be required to gather the same level mats as one gathered to make the item in the first place. If the price for this is to make the minimum level of the item increase I can live with that. The same thing happens with Mabar and Crystal Cove items anyway.

Even if you're correct, and I have no reason to believe you're not, that's not my point.

Level 8 items should not require level 15 materials to upgrade. Period.
