    Default Problem fixed

I wanted to post how I fixed my problem, in case any other people who are not tech savvy can help themselves. (this includes me, I am a tech idiot.)

My problem was that the lanucher could not find host at first and then it succeeded after 3 attempts. But it sat there are the world select screen and would progress no further.

    Here's what I did.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game

I then uninstalled and reinstalled the .NET framework 4 and all associated security patches

I ran a full system scan and cleared up any threats.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the .NET framework 1.1 and 1.1 Service Pack. After this, the launcher would go through 3 cycles of not being able to find the host, then it finally did. It then could not locate the world (Orien) for about 2 minutes and then allowed me to hit the "PLAY" button and connected me to the server after another 2 minutes. This long login allowed me to login twice and then stopped working on further attempts.

I modified the "hosts" file in the System32/drivers/etc folder. This idea came from the DNS shutdown of 6/16/12. I read online how to get around the problem with the DNS not updating by manually putting in several important DDO addresses into the hosts file. I deleted these "extra" web addresses and this finally fixed the problem completely. if you did not do the 6/16/12 fix, you should not mess with this file at all. It is located in Windows/System32/drivers/etc.

    Thanks,

And then you realized there was extended downtime and all you had to do to login was wait?

I modified the "hosts" file in the System32/drivers/etc folder.
Not a good idea. It's a temporary stop-gap measure to fix an issue that resolves itself within 48 hours. In fact having the hosts file hardcoded can lead to further issues down the line when you forget that it's hardcoded and Turbine needs to change one of it's IP addresses. Then you come to the forums and complain and a week later finally figure out it's your own fault.
