    Default Yet another melee dps question

    I'm currently rocking a bard build and enjoying it a lot.

    I've always had a passion for two handed melee characters though. Just swinging a big weapon around etc.

    I don't really have a preference for class types, but I would like to be a two handed fighter, no two weapon stuff. High strength based dps, preferably with more passives than a ton of clickys etc.

    I know this is an oft asked question, but google turns up mostly threads dated 2009-2010.

    I'd like a survivable build, I see him as primarily solo. I bought in so have all non drow races, 32 point build, and artificer (because I've always wanted to play one). I've got the bard for random support and healing in groups do this will likely be a solo or pure dps char.

    So, no responses at all? Not even 'go check this thread over here'?

    Its a tough request.

    Currently the best dps options for THF are barbarian or kensai (with barbarian taking a significant lead now with EDs). Unfortunately, neither of these are very survivable solo without proper gear and silver flame pots due to their lack of self healing and low saves. There are many very survivable THF builds (like WF/horc favored souls or clerics, THF warchanters, etc...) but they don't actually do much dps, and you'll probably find yourself casting blade barriers rather then melee when solo. The best compromise option would be a paladin tank type build, that typically focuses on ac/healing amp/shields/etc.. (or some creative splash build like 12cleric/8fighter, WF 12 fighter/8wizard , or some other abomination) and uses THF as a dps option. Unfortunately, these builds are very clicky intensive

    If soloing on a melee THF is your primary concern, go with paladin (or splash thing) and get used to lots of clickies. If good dps and clicky free play is your primary concern, go with barb but know that you won't be able to solo as much without good equipment. If just soloing everything is your primary concern go with a cleric/fvs, with a backup melee capability.

    Hope this helps..

    My Dwarf Warchanter 16/Fighter 4 is my best solo character. I can solo all the old Epic House Cannith challenges and all the Forgotten Realms Epic Hard quests with it. Has all the good Arcane buffs and what I can't cast I can UMD, including Heal and Raise Dead/Ressurection scrolls. Solid HP and DPS with greataxes, no-fail crowd control with Fascinate and Otto's Irresitable Dance and all while dumping Charisma and pumping Strength and Constitution.

    Hrm, I had no idea, I'm probably used to 'normal' MMOs where you can solo farm everything and every class has self-heals of some type.

    I'd probably be more interested in going the barbarian route, when I do.

    Is warforged a substantial barb race just because of the no fatigue? Or should I take dwarves for the axes? I've read Paladins can be fairly good 2 hand dps, but require a lot of clickies, is that accurate?

    I guess I'll loosen my criteria and say I want to play a 2 hander focused dps class who is moderately simple to play; please no 'balance these 4000 things at once', but a handful of abilities is cool. Wouldn't be that much different than regular MMOs at that point.

    And many thanks for the replies.

    HOrc ---> best THF

    HElf ---> best TWF

    Both by quite a margin.

    WF unfortunately has diminished quite a lot (immunities don't matter end game and resistant to incoming healing).

    If you want to solo, I hate to say it but you should be looking at melee Favored Soul (pay to play class). Check out this build - http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=324831. Easy to play, easy to gear, very effective. HElf, Human or WF works best.

    Click on Certo and Conseco in my signature below. I solo a lot on both of those characters and they're both fun.
