Default We want a black list

I hate having to either memorize peoples name, write em down on note pad/word, or adding them to my friends list with a very rude/negative comment about them. I usually make alot of friends on the game, but alot of times my active black list takes too many slots of my friends list. I will occasionally go through and delete inactive black listees but that still dosent cut it. the black list should be a seprate tab in the social panel and when a person on your black list joins they NEED to get a message such as "you are currently black listed from such and such and may not join this group" (for pug purposes) this will 1 show a player who is black listed by the majority of the server (which on my server there are alot of groups with mutal black listees) 2. hopefully impact them enough to switch servers, quit (most likely choice) or be a better player/person to be likable enough to group up with.

    OR
(and for god sakes read the OR option and dont choose to be a selective reader)

or when a blacklisted person tries to join your group, and your group lead, then there will be a change of color in their name or a symbol indicating their a black listee in chat or a join request.

    Isn't "/squelch add <name>" sufficient?

    Really?

You title a thread "We...." and then start with "I...."

That aside, I wholeheartedly am against this idea (both of them). Your purpose in the first option is to get people to change servers (or quit) so you don't have to deal with them. While you did say it may cause them to become better players, it would be more likely they would quit. Why would Turbine produce a system you yourself admit is more likely to drive people away? Because you don't like them or you want to get a whole server to rise up against a player? Again, really?

What if someone is a bad player but hasn't played long enough to know better? They get in a few groups with "elitists" word spreads and now their server's against them? What if someone is a child (yes they do play), or has an off day, or other stresses in real life impacting game play? They should be punished and avoided like the plague because someone can't remember or take the effort to make a note of who they would like or not like to group with?

Everyone has people they like to play with or types they don't....Your preferences aren't the same as everyone else. It's a waste of time for the devs to work on the second option too. They need to spend time coding a new social panel setting, add color changes to names etc. with all the current bugs that need fixing? If you can't be bothered keeping track yourself of the people yo don't want to group with, the devs shouldn't be bothered either.

    /squelch....move on.

Edit: if you've found more people that you dislike grouping with than those that you do like....maybe the issue isn't everyone else. GRoup with friends and guildies only. Problem solved.

i think when you get to about level 15 and you dont know how to play your class theres a problem, there are zerggers in non zergging groups, and just flat out a holes i dislike also. I do /squelch people, but i dont remember who i squelch at all times and they still end up in my groups (through lfm i lead) and my black list is ginormus. also it takes up tons of space in my friends list, and i have to actually make a comment on them to remember they were a black listee in the first place. and the changes in name color goes as far as vips show up in a certain color in join request so that people know theres a potential elite opener. many a time have i joined a group wanting to do elite, and theres no opener. Its not about getting players to quit, its not about getting players to universally blacklist folks and get em to switch. Its just about my friends (and many others i've spoken too who has just as long as a black list as i do) thats over flowing with black listees. Also the /squelch dosent stop that person from hoping onto an alt that you dont know joining your group and giving you a head ache again. so not only will the black list system work for toons, but for accounts, so lets say i black listed you.that applies to your main and alts so that i dont have to continually black list the same a hole over and over again (and that has happened on a few ocassions)

also grouping with guildies, only have a few i can group up with at current level same thing goes with friends. i either out leveled a good chuck of friends or got out leveled by them. also there is the time zone variations, im in hawaii, west coast is 3 hours ahead of me up to the east coast thats 5 hours ahead of me. I find myself playing with the english and aussies more often then not.

so in short your fix to the problem with joining with guildies/friends is not a fix, only cuz its like cartmen said 'you have to wave through all the d!cks before you find a friend'

and /squelch is per toon not per account so thats also not a solution. i think an entire account should be /squelchable aka black listed

i understand children play, most of the time i let em go if their decent and can follow instructions and dont manage to turn a 20 min quest into a hour extravaganza (the crucible being on that list, along with the pit) both of which i finished in 22 mins (my best guide time thus far).

off days are iight, i usually give people a few chances before i decide to black list em.

blacklistees include, total idiots, and i mean the ones that should ride the short bus but tries to drive it. especially those who dont know n/s/e/w/ my 10 year old sister and 6 year old brother knows their cardinals.

those who cant work as a team especially in the crucible, pit, vod, hox, ect those are the quest most groups gotta work and listen or things can get royally messed up. YOu mean to tell me if someone in your shroud run kept messing up at shroud 2 and it was them (killing the wrong mob at the wrong time dispite you telling them constantly not to) you wouldnt want to black list their accounts, so you dont wind up with that same person whose on a diff toon messing it up the same exact way as last time?

And how specifically should any class be played?

Someone can be a 3rd life TR and not know how to play the class to your standards...

You dislike how someone zergs when you don't want them to, kick them for the next quest....

You asked for an opener for elite, but accepted people who couldn't do it sounds like more of a group leader issue (whether your group or someone else's)...

You can always kick after one quest, reform etc. If you pug, you chance the group. Solo or group with knowns/guildies.

that only fixes on toon on a persons account as i said dosent prevent them from switching toons and joining you, if not a black list then when you /squelch someone then that should go for their entire account.

and people playing their class is playing it right a healer should heal, if their going to dps on top of that they still need to play their role as a healer, i've seen good ranged dps (using bow or xbow) healers keep a party up, ive seen bad versions of that. i have a "flavor" build that works end game. if you dont know how to play your class then it looks to be a reroll. cuz if your not playing a class that dosent fit you theres already something wrong. a rogue who cant get traps is wrong, and im not meaning 2 levels of rogue for evasion im meaning thief acrobats, big stick builds, ect, cuz you can still get equipment needed and you get plenty of skill points as a rogue. i've seen people who arent even really specced to be a trapper more of an assassin or i'll beat you down right out types of rogues who can play their class and get traps. there is a such thing as being able to play your class the right way or the wrong way despite your personal build.

Features of the game should not be designed to exclude other peopl.
We have squelch for spammers and the worst offenders, If you dont like playing with someone use a post it.

If it gets lost, maybe it times to give someone a second chance.
Its just a game, played by young and old. Some are more adept than others, some have a bad day, some make mistakes and others just have real life issues.

Play how you want but try to remember its just a game.

thankyou for not just telling me /squelch and i understand that, but it dose get tedious when you have that "worse" offender who can turn your 20 min quest into a 30-40 min quest to even an hour+ those are the people i definetly black list right off the bat, i've had bad groups do the crucible with me cuz they refuse to listen (im a crucible guide) i.e. pulling out pets in the maze, aggroing mobs on top of maze, going for swim when told to stay and pike that part, now thats a rescue op or your one man short for the rest of time. those who dont know how to listen at the rune wheels. all those are factors that can turn crucible from a 20 min run to an hour and a half run.. if they mess up simply cuz they got killed by trash but was listening no black list, but if their being hard headed "i can solo this quest" but show their @ss and they mess it up continually..black listee

    Usually, this is enough.
And it's more amusing when half of your group has /squelch'ed a guy not even halfway through an adventure.
Had a guy trying to bully everyone in the group into doing things his way... and we didn't let him.
Had to get him raised a number of times through sheer incompetence after we told him what we were going to do, and he pulled a Leeroy Jenkins.
    Multiple times.

"Who wants to carry his Soulstone this time?"
    /serious-facepalm.

BTW, you can check who's on your list by doing /squelch list, IIRC.
Perhaps they should just make an adjustment that allows us to export our /squelch list like we do our /friend list.

Most times, the people I squelch on one character are hardly seen when I'm on another, as I try to keep my characters strewn out across the many leveling ranges.

thats why i think black listing should be account wide not just character based, cuz you just showed me a perfect instance, and ty, i gotta tell alot of people i know bout the /squelch list, cuz there are ALOT of people who dont know this, ty for being helpful. but yeah importing/exporting would be helpful also.

Huh nice. I don't squelch people so much for being incompetent in quests, unless they're intentionally trolling us or piking. People who are bad players either quit or get better within a couple weeks anyway. It's just complete a-holes, like on my only TR, the only person on my squelch list is someone who took both items in a chest trade in a HoX run. I know he changed his name...and the squelch list told me the change. But yes, it is a very nice tip. A lot of hated people seem to be abusing the name change, and imo there needs to have something more done about that too. Yes they stay on your squelch list, but only if you squelch them before the name change.

while I partly understand your dilemma, if you can't even remember who is and who isn't in your blacklist then they must not have done anything so terrible that you mustn't ever group with them again so that you'd need a warning reminding you of this.

its hard when i have a few toons like level, and i have to re-squelch em, if not a black list then the ability to import/export squelchees.

    This ^

Ive only remembered the name of one player due to his objectional behaviour.

There are plenty of other fools around, but I try to let a lot of it go (plus the chances of meeting them multiples times, for me, is remote

    Default Attitude problems maybe?

Let's see... I'm a fairly new player. I've been playing for close to a year, actively for about 7-8 months. I pug a lot. I put up lfm's a lot. I have no people black listed. Not one.

I remember about 3 people that has ****ed me off. And that was not about anything else than the fact that they complained when I didn't play like a hireling. What do I do? I rave and rant about it on my blog... then move on.

Sure, I pick the lfm's I join. If I see a party with melees only looking for a healer, I'm likely to not join, because I do not want to play healbot, and I don't want to get yelled at for not playing like a healbot.

But over all, this is a MMO. You've got all kinds of people playing. If you're gonna do the lfm thing, you can't expect everyone to play like you do or want them to. If that's what you're looking for then start your own guild and only run with those people.

I've been pugging since 2006 and I have a total of 4 people on my squelch list, probably not even active anymore.

Why? Because I dont have an elitist attitude when it comes to putting people on my lists. The people I do squelch are there for being group disruptive, not conflict of personality. Heck, there are people on these forums that annoy me to no end, but I'd still group with them.

/squelch only covers the toons you know, not the person behind the toons who you are really wanting to prevent from joining your groups.

Not everyone meshes personality wise, some hate playing with kids, some hate loot hoars who loot everything regardless of whether they can use items or not, some people talk too much or are verbally abusive.. someone may have barked tink....whatever the reason....not everyone gets along...Most issues are with the person behind the toon not just the toon they are currently on.

I would like to see a list on the social panel with my /squelched hits the persons entire account, where I can add comments as to why I squelched a person (and not have this wipe after every TR)..

I have only squelched a couple of people like the barbarian who looted +4 Wis tome(his drop) in TOD after he won a roll on a +4 STR Tome(that most didnt roll against him) when I was on my cleric or The pug cleric who got to the VOD enterance and said he didnt have any pots or scrolls, so we loaded him up with pots and scrolls.. then he mysteriously DC'd, switched toons (no one knew him or his alts) and was gone for the night. Not only abandoning the group but taking a dozen pots with him....

A list makes it easier to periodically review and reassess squelchee's.

I am sure a lot of flamers are against this /squelch account idea mostly becasue they are worried they will be on that list and you havent figured out all their alts yet...
