Default You think you've got it bad?

I've been playing star trek online casually, and today is the release of season 6 which is essentially update 6.

It took me 20 minutes to login and dozens of retries
They implemented a "priority" queue system that seems to be random as to who gets priority
Missions are taking upwards of five minutes to give you your reward
    Reported bugs are still in-game.
Loading screens are taking upwards of 15 minutes
The promised rewards for playing on the beta server are not available
They took down the website for maintenance after opening
90 minutes after opening the game the login server crashed which kicked everyone from the game
After being unable to login for 15 minutes, the game is now offline for maintenance.

    Wheeeeeeeeee!

So now the whole game is offline, and in the 90 minutes of being logged in I might have managed to actually play about 7 minutes of the game.

I notice how you said "today". Check back a month later to see if all those issues are still present. If yes, then they do have it worse.

I'v been meaning to try that game out myself? is it good? is it really teh great Star Trek experience that they promise it is?
That's not lag, it's just DDO trying to become turn-based again.

I've played it, but not during an update so I wouldn't know about the experience OP had.

It was good fun. But, you level up rather quickly, and there are almost no end-game challenges. The only "Raids" they had (when I quit) were "Special Task Force" missions, which were 6-man fights against the Borg. There are six missions; 3 space, and 3 ground. They're all very similar.

The combat was great, especially the space combat. But, overall, the game didn't keep me occupied for long, once I capped a character.

It's also very easy (if you play on normal. You can get to cap almost without repeating anything, even on normal), at least if you choose a Cruiser as your ship. Cruisers are very hard to kill.

But if I were you, I would honestly try it out. It was very fun, and, if you're a Trekkie, you'd probably enjoy it.

    Yup..MsErika is correct.

The space combat is probably one the best in the business. That is really it. As a long time Trekkie, they destroyed my concept of Start Trek. While there are improvements since I played the beta and start, It is nice to know They still cannot keep the game up. Crashes are still frequent, and communtication sucks.

Have fun with the lava tree away missions.

I just wish we could walk around our ships, and bring friends onboard to handle the tactical/science/engineering consoles.

How cool would it be to order some NPC to take over my station so that I could run down to the transporter room to beam over to the enemy ship??

    Hi,

What is the implication of the OP's post?

That because things are worse somewhere else, we should be happy with what we have here?

Things can always be worse. That doesn't mean we shouldn't want (or ask) for them to be better. Not perfect. Just better.

    Thanks.

I played a little when it went F2P. Making a character was lots of fun (just like the other cryptic games City of whatevers. I loved that you could customize your ship some.

The problem with the combat was just like their city games its fire and forget. Just keep mashing your fire buttons when you're in range and its all automatic. I may have been spoiled by the combat in my first MMO Jumpgate. Jumpgate combat is to Star trek, as DDO is to WOW. Only more skill based. Too bad the sequal got cancelled.

What got me sick of Star Trek was when I got a mission to visit a planet in some sector that had NO PLANETS, and I wasn't able to communicate with anyone to ask what to do because of being a froob. Noone would even respond to their equivalent to general chat.

Im a big trekkie, but I did not enjoy that game.

Aren't you posting this on the wrong forums? You're completely missing your chance to get raked over the coals by the fanbois here.

That is how the old TrekMuse and MUDs used to work.

If theres one company that I can always count on to fubar something worse than turbine.. its crytpic.

They are fantastic at game PLAY design... sto's space combat is really fun, even the ground isnt to bad really. The game itself i view as fun leveling up, they're not really on track with what you'd expect in star trek via tv/movies/books/etc... but its kinda hard to do a tng episode in a video game so its lots less talk lots more bang.

Yet crypic is so much worse even at turbine once the base product is out the door.. hence why I want nothing to do with neverwinter... if cryptic had been given neverwinter nights 3, and not nwo..... id have played it and expected a good game... but since its online.... I expect them to create a game thats fun to level in... suck at endgame... and be completly fubared in everything they try to do with it afterwards.

I WANTED to love the game. Really I WANTED it to work. They listened to NO ONE on the beta, then no one at start. They KNEW the servers couldn't handle it. When Turbine updated their servers, and when it went pear-shaped, they were on the forums giving us a play by play to both LotRO and DDO. Cryptic said, "Oops...It will be up...sometime" and then silence. Trust me, Turbine is very good with putting the info out, well, more than most.

Two; it didn't FEEL like Star Trek. It felt, off. THe away missions improved but they were so bad. Custom ship design, PROMISED in beta, never delivered. THe only mission that felt like Star Trek was this cool one where you went back in time to meet the original Enterprise. You talk to Spock (Lenard made the voice over!) andit was exciting and it felt like an episode of Star Trek, any of them. THen the rest...bah. The same old thing, not exploring, not anything.

And this. NWNO will suck. Just because Cryptic is involved.

Thank you for the response. I thought it would be something like that. The part i capitalized, I dont get one bit.
It is one if not THE major theme of star trek.

About cryptic, I remember hearing a lot of good things about CoH. Did anybody here play it?

Afterthought - I liked the new Star Trek movie as a movie, but really want a new show with that star trek feel.

I don't have much experience with Cryptic, but they were purchased by perfectworld and I hear they are the scum of internet gaming.

I enjoy the space missions, a lot actually. And the update today is basically about guild housing (star bases). Yes the end game is VERY repetitive, but this update might change that up a little.

The ground missions I just can't get into. I wanted to try the game to blow stuff up, and the mechanics on the ground just don't seem right.

Leonard Nimoy actually does a number of voice-overs in the game including congratulating you for each rank you gain (five in total). It's kind of neat to hear his voice when you're not expecting it.

Update - Nine hours after launch the server has stabilized, but there's still some server lag issues which there normally isn't.
