How about no.
The only fanfic anyone should ever read is Newt Gingrich: Hero of Equestria. It isn't a story: it's an experience.

Every year, some of the Festivult cookies/cakes/jellies change their effects.
Can we expect to see offensive instead of healing Cupcakes on the next Festivult update?
How did my little pony references get past anyone with common sense? Well thats easy, no one with a lick of sense past the age of eight would have any idea that these are my little pony references. This is one of the lamest things I have ever seen in a game, congratulations Turbine.

I think DDO: Equestria would have deeper characters and a more interesting storyline than anything in the forgotten realms

I read fantasy almost daily. I haven't even touched any of GRRM's books, because I don't read unfinished **** that's not going to be finished in the forseeable future. Cliffhangers suck. If it's not episodic or finished, I won't bother reading it, no matter how good it is. For this same reason I don't intend to watch Game of Drones until it's, just like the books, finished.
So, why are there a ton of band and movie references in this game? Also would it be proper to throw in a bunch of anime references when they're based on D&D (where are all my slayers references?). What about Star Wars references? There's at least some of those in here, and that's a Sci-fi, which has little to do with D&D.But again, it's not about popularity, it's about relevance.
I personally find this thread dumb. The OP was probably using a sarcastic negative tone in the thread title (and it seems I'm right, considering his other posts) and found the entire thing pretty funny, as did I after I read it. I had no idea about this before this thread, as I don't watch ponies. Then it degenerated into people complaining about a reference to a popular children's cartoon show.
Bronies: For those who get it, no explanation is needed; for those who don't, none will do.
If I hadn't stumbled upon this post, I'd have no idea that those weapons are a nod to My Little Pony. If someone had asked me to guess I probably would have guessed Sailor Moon, but honestly, some of you guys sound like you've just got your manhood chopped off. Seriously. Get a grip!
There are different levels of D&D related, fantasy based references, or, to put it bluntly, there are different levels of stupid pop culture references.
Obviously the stupid-range is subjective. My personal range is as follows (1 being the least stupid reference non-D&D related reference, and 10 being one of the most stupid, unrelated, vapid, references possible that make you a little bit dead inside).
1- Cleverish and/or relevant to fantasy trope: e.g an NPC using a quote from Conan the movie
3- Silly but remotely fantasy related: e.g princess bride reference
5- Groaner and not really related to D&D, but not annoying: e.g. Scorpion rare named Schenker, Barb NPC Arnal Swarts
7- Bad crowbar, no connection to D&D and no need to go there: can't think of an example right now
8.5- My pretty pony, strawberry shortcake, sailor moon, barbie, etc
10- God awful reference to some awful pop phenomenon that is the anti-thesis of everything D&D: can't think of any in DDO, but if they ever had any thing alluding to Jersey Shore or Real Housewives of the OC it would be here.
