Unhappy R.I.P. CRT, Last of the Greats...

I believe my trusty HP A7217A CRT (also known as the sony GDM-FW900) has finally given up it's ghost. The dreaded "red screen".

For those who don't know CRT's, my baby is/was a monster 24" 16:10 "flatscreen" with a max resolution of 2304 x 1440, and un-parelleled color. The best and last of the trinitrons. It wieghs 93 lbs.

It will be dificult to replace, as even at over 10 years old, it was still the best display I've ever seen.

colors, excessive reolutions (I do CAD/CAM), zero freq response, dot pitch, enormous viewable area and angles...the list goes on and on I haven't done the research in a year or 2, but I don't know "if" it's replaceable in specs...not gonna miss the 160 watt draw, or the footprint, so at least i got that going for me.

I find LCDs a lot easier on the eyes than CRTs, but maybe thats just me.
I still have an old CRT that I had to hook up at one point when my first LCD died on me and it just looked horrible, I really have no idea how I even managed with the thing.

You obviously have never seen one of these beasts. This is no normal CRT. It has/had arguablly the best color correction, resolution, and overall picture quality of any display produced, current LCD's included. There is no doubt, if it proves un-fixable, that I will be taking a substantial downgrade buying anything new.
