The title of this thread is what's caused all the confusion.

The Druid's Wolf Companion counts as a Ranger - Arti Dog counts as a Fighter.

So Druid Wolf gets some of the Ranger enhancements.

If Rangers ever do get their own {Real} Companions it would be nice if they had the same choice as the Druids - Druids do get a lot of other stuff that Rangers don't after all {them having the same pets isn't going to be a problem in my eyes.}.

Oh and Wizards should get Familiars - I'd suggest Ice Mephit for Archmage and Skeleton Knight for PM - Done the same as Arti Dogs/Druid Wolves.

If so then this is a change coming down the pipe (Patch 2 perhaps?) because my wolf doesn't have those options.

It used to be a Barbarian in the Beta, but now on Live Druid's pet wolf is a Ranger.

I'd much rather have it be a Barbarian though :/

I have no problem with rangers getting a pet...equal to thier level.

However, they should still wait for it until the proper level as in PnP.

    so

If they have to wait until say lvl 5 (not sure what PnP says)
then at level 5 they get one, that is CR5

also, skip the wolves, games got enuff of them already. cat, or something else.

The guy in the screen shot isn't at the ranger trainer... he could be multiclassing and getting it from something else like druid.

^^ I fully agree with the above ^^

But it would be really nice if both Druids and Rangers could pick from a list. Even if most of the differences were just cosmetic. Even better tho if the differences were full 'class-like' differences, like the aforemention Barbarian/Ranger/Fighter differences.

Obvious ones would be: Wolf/Cat/Bear/Ape/Alligator/Hawk (please, Hawks that 'go for the eyes!... or hamsters)

You can train it - but it does nothing.

I'm gonna speculate that the screenshot is just showing an artifact or errant code, what with Druid Dogs now being Rangers. I think that a Dev said someplace that no plans were on the table anytime soon for Rangers to get a pet. Could be wrong tho...

As for....pets are useless vs pets are not useless

It comes down to play style and pet equipment.

If you stick a POS + whatever armor module on with a POS +3 weapon module
then send your arty dog to tank a mob...it will die

just like a fighter will die if he agros the whole mob and nobody HEALS him

If you want to have your pet tank, equip it to tank.

    Armor module - Fearsome
Weapon module - something that debuff or deabilitates like paralization or stun
Then heal it when its hit points start to dip.
    Tanks need healing support.
