"Main" is a tricky word for me when it comes to DDO. I find that it's very difficult for me to choose a main and stick with it. Every other day I want to play something else. I have more fun planning the builds of my characters and putting them to the test than actually playing through the game itself.

My longest played character is my mechanic rogue, but I would in no way consider her my main. I think I have the most fun playing my CC/Support Bard. But again, I wouldn't consider that bard to be my main. I think I can safely say I don't have one.

The closest character to a main for me would be the FIRST character I made: my Arcane Archer. I went through the quests and dungeons with that ranger for the first time and learned all about the game and the way it's played and how it really differs from P&P. It was the first character I made all my mistakes with. My ignorance made tons of people angry. Based on the nostalgia of going through the game for my first time, I would probably consider my arcane archer to be my main.

The reason why I chose AA was because I love ranged combat. Staying behind the group and picking enemies off one by one while the rest of my party goes in head first is what I enjoy most. Then when combat comes at me face to face, I love being able to switch to two weapon style. Primarily ranged and secondarily melee is my most IDEAL way to do combat in any game.

    Default Main: Rogue

I always, whicever the game, grab the rogue or the assassin class when I can. I like brain and agility over muscles and magic. I like strategy better then open raging war. I like dexterity over strenght as it probably fits my real constituancy. I've also played LARP and the adrenaline it gave me managing to assassinate foes was awesome.

From all the game I've played, DDO is the one I enjoy the most playing an assassin. I like the feel of it. (Haven't played Assassin's creed yet but that's not fair as you can only play an assassin). Sneaking, waiting for the good position, assassinate 2 foes, wait, position, use barb as agro manager, assassinate, etc. I love my character so much that I'm not sure I want to TR it eventhough it was my first toon and is only 28pts build.

Friia is now a lvl 24 rogue shadowdancer 5 and feels great to play!

I'm very fond of the xp-grind. The repetitive nature (of being "efficient") doesn't bother me so much, so being arcane (especially sorc) lately really lends itself to the end of "run run run... nuke.... run run run... invis.... run run run... nuke... complete" etc.

Sling wielding Gnome illusionist ftw! Between phantasmal force and cantrips I can distract an entire village of halflings! What about my low CON and my overzealous squishy familiar?

My first toons were THF melees for the big numbers when I hit things, but being poor and without proper gear to offset bad saves (and/or bad builds) these all petered out in the 8-10 levels. My first capped toon was an arcane archer, but I didn't enjoy switching back and forth to melee and off-manyshot DPS was too frustrating. I rolled up a sorc, played him more like a blue-barbarian, focusing almost solely on nuking (this was pre-DoTs and savants). Better, but it still got boring.

Then I rolled my monk... running all over the place, spamming fists of light and stuns, jading and dismissing devils and beholders all while flailing about on my keyboard like a mad pianist chasing an invisible spider up and down an arpeggio. It was fast, visceral, and ever-changing. See room, see things, determine which thing I should kill first, get to thing, hit thing, determine if thing was susceptible to Shintao strikes, KILL THE THING, find next thing... all happening at once. And now with my shiny new epic destiny I think in terms of fighting by the half-dozen.

I love my Arty, he trundles along pewpewpewing and firing his runearm like mechanized artillery. I love my DoS Pally, a big lump who's favorite pastimes include "getting hit in the face and not minding" and "figuring out how to get more people to hit his face". But they're not my monk and they're just not as fun.

My first character was a bard, because noone in our guild had a bard when I joined. My second character was also a bard, because I wanted to have a bard after TRing my first bard into an artificer (she's my crafter).

My first main was a Ranger, she was great fun to play pre-nerf due to trap smithing, tempest TWF'ing, situational ranged, decent UMD, self healing etc.

My second main was a Cleric Arcane Archer, concept build that I enjoyed. I really love clerics as they're versatile and can support a group or solo very well.

My third main was a Lord of Blades Favoured Soul. I loved being a front line fighter while still being able to solo heal a raid. I built him to tank (pre nerf) and loved tanking things like Vision of Destruction on normal and hard.

After taking a break from the game I changed servers to Khyber.

My fourth main was my palemaster wizard. He's sturdy and great and quite capable in most end game content despite still being first life.

My fifth main was my rogue. Unarmed combat style to deliver massive sneak attack and vorpal DPS on a high strength platform with multiple stuns and CC options makes for a winning combination, he's still possibly my favourite character to play but is side lined currently.

My current main is my artificer/crafter/archer, she's on her 5th life as an Acrobat/Archer and I'm enjoying experimenting with build ideas that haven't been tried before, I've always loved ranged combat it's just a pity that it's so difficult to make it work in DDO (though part of me just thinks that the rewards must be greater because of it).

    Game Launch
I made a rogue because I wanted a build with skills. He was gimped so...

    Drows were released
I made a drow paladin which was awesome until the capped was brought up to 14 and she just didn't have enough HP or AC so I made another self healing build...

    Level 14 cap
WF wizard. Skills, flexibility, and self healing.
11ROG/3PALLY drow. High AC, high saves, skills, self healing and buffing via UMD...I basically used the knowledge from my first two builds to make something awesome...until Amrath. My AC was a bit too low for this new content.

    True Ressurection is released
At this point my WF wizard was the only build I had that wasn't gimped and still fun to play but I TRed my gimped rogue to...
19ROG/1MNK halfling. More HP, AC, speed, and hand wraps for bludgeon damage.
TRed my gimped paladin to various paladin and cleric builds with more DPS and self healing.

    Now
I pretty much just play what was my paladin, Vindicate, and my WF wizard, Volver. It's survivability that I look for in my toons.
    Ghallanda
    Volver life 3 lvl 20 sorc - 4 Epic /// Adept life 3 lvl 2mnk/17pal /// Vindicate life 6 lvl 18rgr/1ftr/1clr - 2 Epic /// [COLOR="Red"]

My main, the character I'm currently playing exclusively is a wf artie. Since I solo he is awesome, self healing, can do
locks and traps and has a decent pet (which doesn't seem bug out for me as bad as some). The first is basically a requirement and the second is also very the important. My old main was a halfling rogue/monk with dragon mark of healing. Very fun to play and met the two conditions.

Main class was for a while fighter, then I got 3 past lives in fighter and now I'm almost done with being a monk :P
That which does not kill you gives you experience points.

I got a sunblade in the end reward from one of the house J quests on my gimped ranger.

I felt that this was the perfect low lvl weapon for a rogue, so I rolled a rogue.

When i reached lvl 12 on my rogue I assassinated my first mob in gianthold.

After that all my other characters became mules.

The very first character I created is still my main -- I lucked out that way! I picked Arcane Archer path because I like to run fast, have evasion, kill things at a distance, and have enough self-healing to solo. I got her to level 20, then TR'd. Right now she is level 17 very bizarre ranger/cleric/rogue mishmash, whose main purpose is to provide her with Past Life Rogue in next TR. Which will be Arcane Archer again, with two levels of bard (don't ask).

None of my other toons capped yet, although one is level 19.

Raistlin Majere FTW. I even got my kid to roll up a fighter to be my Caramon. Love to play the neutral evil drunk with power mage, knowing I have ALL THE POWER IN THE UNIVERSE, but an itty bitty living space.

Besides, its a blast to watch your melee buddies faces when the fight gets a little too close and you declare screw it all I am just going to cast fireball into the 20x20 room and end this now.

I like magicians / wizards / sorcerers, that kind of thing, I was the kind of kid who always wanted Raistlin to succeed (dragonlance). So naturally that was my chosen class to start with, started as a sorcerer who ended up with 190 Hp at level 20, 3k sp, used to run epics on him, very squishy, and that was how I thought mages are, enormously powerful, splitting worlds kinda powerful, but one hit and boomski your dead.

Not exactly what it's like now in DDO, but it's still close enough

Although I enjoy playing most classes, my favorite class has always been the favored soul; they are always welcome in just about any group and can still contribute to the offensive aspect of a party.

My main is 17Cleric3Monk. Since epic destinies have arrived I haven't played anything else. I want to change my play style I just switch EDs instead of toons. Less hassle. I will probably start grinding EDs for my sorc when I finish them all for my cleric though. Maybe....

Edit: I forgot the question lol. I picked a cleric as my first toon, mainly because I wanted to be able to heal myself, splashed monk for the animation and evasion . I have capped three other toons with a second life on my sorc, but my cleric is my main because I never have to worry about waiting for a healer and I can melee with it, cast with it, and use bows with it albeit relatively slowly. The EDs only made the none healing aspects of my gimped build much better. Way more fun to play now.

Caster melee hybrid Favoured Soul. What's not to like?

Secondaries are Pale Master and monk. i value self sufficiency as I solo a lot. Also have a soft spot for bards.

The Hand of the Black Tower, Khyber.
    Cupcakes welcomed.
