    Question 14.1: Freedom of Movement

    From the Lamannia Notes:

Freedom of Movement now protects against magic effects only, not effects that are non-magical in origin.
Will FoM protect against effects from magic items like paralyze, earthgrab, stone prison, etc.?

Previous patch notes have already stated that FoM no longer protects against earth grab. I doubt it protects against petrifying, but it should protect against paralyze.

    Wink

That was U12. With the change in 14.1, they might have let it work against magical earthgrab, hence the question.

paralyze, like from a Cube's paralysis, is not a magical effect, so FoM should NOT work. Earthgrab is magical, but I guess it's the Non-magical 'Grapple' effect that occurs when an earth ellie grabs you that FoM is failing to save you from... meh, we had this debate when the FoM nerf first occured, u13 was it? Stone Prison is a magical weapon effect, so FoM should work. Though I don't know of any mosters carrying SP weapons, they do cast Flesh to Stone, which is the same thing really, so again, FoM should work. Haven't tested at all though, so who knkows?

Well I'm hoping the devs know and stop by for a quick enlightenment.

And PVP matters for FoM too

Sounds like there will be no more slippery surface immunity?

FoM currently doesn't protect against FtS. Examples off the top of my head are the stone scorpions in Rainbow in the Dark and the abishai in epic Snitch and Partycrashers. Characters with low fortitude saves get turned into statues in those quests even with FoM.

Right, but what if things like F2S and EG from magical sources are blocked by the new FoM since the same effects from creatures would (still) not be blocked by FoM?

Correct. Hence the 'should' and the 'haven't tested so don't have a clue'

FoM should not protect against flesh to stone.

It should work against stone prison.
It should work on web, which includes the webline slow/trip combo from driders
It should let you run through waist-high water at full speed
It should let you ignore grease and icy surfaces
It should stop Hold Person/Hold Monster/Paralyze from kai-teng
It should let you automatically save against Earthgrab (it's a grapple attempt)
It should let you run unimpeded through solid fog

But it seems that soon it will do none of these things. In another couple of updates, it will protect against nothing at all. Or maybe just Hold Person....and of course, by the time you get the spell, you've stopped fighting the kobolds who spam it at you, so there won't be any purpose in ever casting it at all.

At least it will free up a spell slot on my FvS. Level 4 is pretty tight.

Just wait until U15. Deathward will no longer protect against Death spells either. It will be "Non-magical death effects only".

It should work against Earth Grab again, no idea what the thought process was in removing immunity against that.

Earth Grab is probably THE most annoying ability in DDO that I have encountered, with no counters apart from high reflex saves and not rolling a 1.

What about Re-Buffed Air Eles Knockback + Knockdown effect..... By far THE king annoyance.

All this happened due to some poor dude who's 6 out of 8 toons were Sword and board and got tired of being a constant kitein Reaver....

The devs caught attention of his cries and revised that calcs were broken so they Un-Nerfed and buffed them OP style

Earthgrab should go out of range quite simply put.... Missing an ELE in rainbow and still getting earthgrabbed past the spike pits yeah its not fun.

Honestly... I think the devs gave up on trying to fix things and said screw it. We'll just remove what it can do and update descriptions.

"spell trap" in the new content, and FoM does NOTHING.

But we have our fluffy poisonous monsters who are posionous only... ah yes and they use webz. Webz and poisons, it has to be challengning.... nah we cannot take all loot directly, that was bad design let us make it completely uselees instead so our fluffy monsters can be dangerous....

    Softkill agendas... thank you dev.s

I've said this before, but it when you want a new special effect to be powerful, just make it a new effect. When you go go overboard, and instead take defenses and abilities, and make them no longer relevant against the OLD things, it's unnecessarily aggravating to the player base.

This mostly. If it still works against hold person then it will still be useful in shroud at least, as harry casts mass hold... but then that is a good argument for the devs to make it not work on mass hold anymore.
