    Question Paladin - Fighter

First thing I noticed about the Fighter class is that their skills do not suffer from any armor penalties. My goal is to have a 14/6 or 15/5 or something like that Paladin/Fighter, but last level I want leveled as paladin.

    1. The question I have is ....As a Paladin with the few levels of fighter, will the Paladin be rewarded the no-penalty to skills like the fighter, when it comes to heavy armor?

    2. Second question....does toughness still stack among Paladin, Fighter, Barb?

Searched around the last two days and did not see anything answering the above, if you know the answer please post here and refrain from more links. Appreciate just direct yes or no answers...thanks!

The Armor Check Penalty from armor only counts against the following skills; no matter what class(es) you take.
Balance, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Swim, and Tumble. Point of note is that the penalty is doubled for Swim.

That is odd then because my Fighter in full-plate+2 suffers no penalties. Bug maybe...hmm interesting in the least. I read what you posted from wiki and forums, but thanks for replying.

    1. Fighters can take Armored Agility to lower their ACP, but basically no one bothers; ftrs are so AP-starved they spend their pts elsewhere. Otherwise they have no bonuses to ACP that I'm aware of. What you're seeing could be a display bug.

    2. If you mean, "Can I take Toughness enhs from more than one class?" then the answer is "no." Taking ftr Toughness enhs lock out pally Toughness enhs and vice versa.

    I prefer the pally 6 / ftr 12 combo to ftr 6 / pally 12-14.

    1) Certain skills are penalized by your armor & shield, irregardless of what class you are. This is called your armor check penalty and your penalty is calculated by adding the armor check penalty of both your armor and your shield (if wearing one). This penalty appears in the item description, and the total penalty from both is subtracted from the skills that Fomori lists. Simply being a fighter does not remove this penalty, so I recommend to take your armor on and off and then look at your skills such as balance and tumble to see what happens to them. Some aspects of your character sheet will not update unless you close it and reopen it after a change like this, so make sure to do this to make sure you are seeing the correct value. To be honest, your armor check penalty only has a very small impact on how your character will perform so I wouldn't let it influence your build (or put enhancement points into it).

    2) As for the Paladin, Fighter & Barb toughness enhancements, as Unbongwah mentions, taking one enhancement line will lock you out of the others. So you can't get lots of cheap hit points by taking both. Don't worry about it though because there are lots of ways to get hit points.
