OK so I was having blackout problems before U14, but I mostly eliminated them by switching to DX9 (I am not an Intel user and was not getting the exact Known Issue at the top of the page, but switching to DX9 anyway changed the permanent black screen problem to a short flicker and then it went back to normal.)
This was tolerable but since U14 came out the issue is exponentially worse. In the game, it's worst in King's Forest, where quite often (once every 1-3 minutes) the screen will pause, then go all black for about 2-3 seconds, then return to normal. I minimized this by switching my graphics from very high (the autodetect setting) to medium. It still does it occasionally but not nearly as often.
The problem is insane in the character select and character creations screens, though. The screen will pause and then blackout for 30 seconds or more. The mouse cursor remains on the screen and is movable, but no other UI elements. Sometimes, it seems like moving the character around (even though I can't see it) or clicking an invisible button will return the screen to normal but it isn't very reliable. I have come to the conclusion that it's just a coincidence.
This problem makes it very frustrating trying to make a character or even choosing a character to log in as. It's like a race to see if I can get to the Enter World button before the screen blacks out. Any help would be appreciated. Following is my dxdiag:

Me too.
Having the same issues, however, mine seem to crop up more often and has made the game unplayable. Too bad too because I just switched back from SWTOR. Sigh.
