    Default random pc shut offs.

i don't believe that this is ddo related - but it is annoying.

I upgraded my monitor last month - from 19 inch with comparitvly low resolution to a new 23 inch with much better resolution.

since that happened - i will start the machine, be fine, and poof! the machine shuts down.

i have to hard shut down and reboot.

one of my guildies and a coworker both say this is a power supply issue and is simple to fix.

could i get some more feedback?

Is it really that easy to switch out a power supply? even if someone is unfalmilar with pc repairs?

    thanks guys!

IF it's the power supply, it is pretty easy to replace if you are mechanically inclined. It's four screws and some connectors and it's out.

If you are not comfortable doing it, a shop or perhaps even a friend can do it.

And yes, the power supply can cause issues such as random shutdowns.

A shutdown like that is usually power supply, could be temperature if a fan stopped working.

Swapping power supplies is time-consuming -- many cases put it in awkward positions with bunches of wires pouring out -- but not difficult or technical. Be sure to take a picture before pulling anything, and count how many plugs you pull. Power supplies come with extra power cables, so it can be difficult to know if you missed hooking something back up.

Just on a hunch, you might try reseating the video card. Plugging the monitor cable in could have tilted the card just enough that one edge isn't making full contact and basically shorting out.
