Does the Druid Pet Dog (not the spell) go up levels, hp and such the same as the Artificer Pet?

I noticed that I could train them-but he did not appear to advance with anything else.

You have to dismiss and resummon your pet after you have leveled. Otherwise it stays at its old HP and stat level. That could possibly be why you couldn't see any difference.
