Default Manyshot less useful in U14

    Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone else playing an archer at L20 has noticed a decrease in their chances to hit when using manyshot.

When running the quest to gain access to Faerun (solo, no hireling, on normal difficulty) I noticed a lot of grazing hits when using my bow. Normally I don't see any at all; it's either a full hit or a complete miss (on a 1).

My main doesn't normally have any problems hitting anything with his bow, aside from the highest AC targets in the pre U14 game. His buffed to hit is around +58 with the bow.

Interesting thing was, although it was most obvious when using manyshot, it was happening more when using the bow normally than in melee. This seems odd, because while my toon's to-hit modifiers are similar for melee and ranged, the ranged ones are a few points higher.

I'd be interested to hear about other people's experiences with this, and also if anyone knows why it could be affecting melee and ranged attacks differently.

    Thanks.

Devs put too many good thing into this update, so they had to balance this with ridiculously silly changes: Now players graze on a 2+ if their attack is too low.
Before you saw misses, now you see grazes.
That's part of your problem, but dunno yet why you hit less often with a bow.
    Maybe bad luck.
Btw with the new combat changes, you can see more misses with high to hit characters who could hit on a 2 before update (and much more hits with gimps, but thats another story).

I hear that the to-hit pass is working for ranged but not for melee at the moment so melee is still going off the old rules.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the replies.

Just to be clear, this toon did not miss stuff with his bow unless the target had a very high AC. So Angog, Malicia, LoB were really the only things he wasn't hitting 95% of the time. There may be some high AC targets in other stuff I wasn't running regularly too.

Wax, thanks, I think I heard something similar too. If you run your archer through the first quest please let me know how you go.

It was kind of depressing to see manyshot so much less effective than it usually is because of all of those grazing hits. Actually, it seems like a bit of a kick in the teeth after all that effort to gear the toon, not to mention the two fighter past lives I did just before the update.

    Thanks.

This would explain a lot, and why I'm enjoying my melee so much right now, after thinking she would be horribly gimped.

    Hi,

After spending a few more hours in-game, exploring the King's Forest, it seems like to hit for melee and ranged combat is working very differently.

While I think it's nice that there has been an attempt to fix the problems with AC, I would say that if it has to come at the cost of being able to hit things (edit: reliably), then that cost is too high. Much too high.

    Thanks.
