My Lover's Gone, by Dido. As a soldier, it breaks me every time. I absolutely can't listen to it without tearing up.

The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

Was glad to see "He Stopped Loving Her Today" listed already. Definitely has its share of cheese, but it may be the perfect county song.
Another one that really gets to me is Pink Floyd's Eclipse/Brain Damage.
Heatherx (Completionist--honest, no stones)
Toryen Warchanter 24 ~ Treslyn Cleric 26 ~ Lohikaerme Druid 24 ~ Khenshii Monk 28
Heroes of Light and Darkness ~ Argonnessen
Alice in chains : Down in a hole.
Pink floyd : Comfortably numb
Alice in chains : Nutshell
They're about the best I can think of off the top of my head.
There are many amazing songs, but I have these 3, that will bring tears to my eyes with guarantee.
"Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks.
"Tom Traubert's Blues" by Tom Waits.
"Imagine" by John Lennon.
... by Justin Bieber. Anytime I hear any of his music I want to weep.
Good one. *added link*
Another one should've been one of my first choices:
Queen - Who wants to Live Forever?

Depeche Mode....Blasphemous Rumors
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT4Kw3A0pHI
ShadowFlash
Murder City Devils, "Tell You Brother"
Elysian Fields, "Ashes in Winter Light"
If I was going to pick a Johnny Cash song, it would be "Sunday Morning Coming Down"
Morphine, "Cure for Pain"
Social Distortion, "Down on the World Again"
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, "Apologies"
I'll spin through my collection when I get home and see if I can come up with some more, but depression is something I generally try to avoid in my music... I don't really need the help.
The Tim McGraw one is brutal. I mention this so that anyone who hasn't heard it before like me will be spared. My nominees:
Regina Spektor - Samson
Original Caste - One Tin Soldier
Kina Grannis' cover of Demi Lovato - Skyscraper
F__k it by emon?
Whitewolfe of khyber.
Lot of Orion.
Chak of almost every server in some form or another.
Definitely agree on Seasons In The Sun. Also Hazard by Richard Marx.
Given that this is a game forum though, I'd recommend Forever Rachel from Final Fantasy 6. Instrumental, but still manages to be extremely sad. Especially if you've played through the game and through the story of Rachel and Locke.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TzPDsBNtsw links to the track, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zguR3ngGhCQ shows the storyline.
I don't have a zerging problem.
I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.
Johnny Cash "Hurt"
Alice in Chains "Down in a Hole" ( acoustic, so much better)
and this one

the grapes of wrath
You see in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Hmm Most depressing sad songs huh? A few come to mind in no particular order:
Gov't Mule covering Radiohead's Creep: Youtube Link
Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come: Youtube Link
Billie Holliday's Gloomy Sunday: Youtube Link
I would add my vote for Johnny Cash's version of Hurt... but in truth the most depressing of them all for myself and others will be....
The Military Taps buggler: Youtube Link
Founding Member and Current Leader of Sword And Siren on Cannith
Main Toons: Cerafim | GrumpyKuss | Thextor | Khrysti | RocHound | Artychoke | Buggzapper
Veni, Vidi, Velcro: I came, I saw, I got stuck
Pink floyd - Paranoid eyes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITy47L15xbs or almost any other song on the final cut album...
Always liked moonlight sonata by beethoven
Song for Bob by nick cave and warren ellis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz0FSG9h-GI (If anyone likes this one, I highly recommend anything done by warren ellis' band- The dirty three. Can be a bit out there but some of it is holy **** good)
Anál nathrach
orth’ bháis’s bethad
do chél dénmha
imo, for every person the songs that depress you are different depending on how you interpret them or
what they mean to you. . .
anyway, for me:
meat loaf: two out of three ain't bad.
