Default Music lovers, would like your opinions, please

Got a little contest going with a friend and wouldn't mind some help. It's a long story, but I need three of the saddest, most goddamn depressing songs ever.

I'm a sucker for a contest, lol. Any suggestions?

Here's the tentative list- have to narrow it down, or consider other options.

Pogues - "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda"
Tom Waits- "Kentucky Avenue" or "Johnsburg, Illinois"
Richard Thompson- "1952 Vincent Black Lightning"
The Whitlams - "Blow up the Pokies"
Warren Zevon - "Keep me in your Heart"
Harry Chapin - "Cats in the Cradle"
    Johnny Cash - "Hurt"
Bruce Springsteen - "Highway Patrolman" or "Streets of Philadelphia"
Clint Eastwood and Jamie Cullum - Theme from "Gran Torino"
    ~ Pallai, Chennai, Saraphima~
    ~Shipbuff, Sophalia, Northenstar ~
    ~ Ascent~

Johnny Cash - "Hurt" is real close..

but my pick is I'll Remember You by the haunting voice of Elvis Presley. I know I would not be here today, if it werent for this song.

Several others, by Elvis, who was more known for his rockabily hits such as Hound Dog, was without question the best singer in my mind at evoking emotion, whatever your pain comes from... In my opinion, Hound Dog/Jailhouse Rock and other rockabily songs did not make him the legend he has become, but the songs that could mend a broken heart... they identify with so many people, so many walks of life:

I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry

    You Gave Me A Mountain

    Pieces of My Life

    Long Black Limousine

    Solitaire

Oh, has to be Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks. That song leaks cheese from its eyes.

How about anything 'Emo'. Theres nothing more depressing(and annoying) than some guy whining about how 'its so hard to be a man'. *Shudders* Not an Emo fan. Nuh uh. No way.

Who said anything about listing Country only? I dont remember seeing those limitations.
But really, I already knew there was a line there. I was unfortunate enough to grow up listening to my mothers Shania 'Pain'(sorry, meant Twain ) growing up.
