Is this question one that is too soon to ask?
I was just wondering how big the expansion will be. Are we talking a gig of memory?
Thanks ahead of time if I get an answer.

I don't foresee U14 using more or less memory than the existing release. There will probably be additional textures and models which may result in a few more meg of video memory being used. But outside of that, what we have now is what we'll have then.
Curiously, I've noticed the memory footprint of the game has decreased about 3% - 4% since the release of U13 in terms of character swapping. I don't know if this is related to a change Turbine made or some recent update to the OS. It is, however, quite consistent over the last month or so.
The OP may actually mean disk space, I've seen people call that "memory" as well.
Oh, well, I see...
In that case, a quick differential of the current live and Lamannia installations resulted in approximately 0.93Gb difference in disk space granting Lamannia the greater share. This result should be taken with a grain of salt. I re-installed live about seven months ago and have subsequently updated from U11 through U13. My last preview installation was with the closed beta and has seen, what, three updates since? As the data files are not compressed during an update, the files sizes do tend to grow. Consequently, the live client_sound.dat file is substantially larger than it's preview counterpart. However the preview client_highres.dat is much bigger than the live version leading me to believe that file will represent the bulk of the update in terms of downloading content.
So, to provide a ballpark estimate: between 0.4Gb and 0.7Gb (depending on texture resolution - normal or high) for the update as far as disk space is concerned. Best guess I can give.

It's possible, that like with other we have seen, all of the expansion is already in your client waiting to be unlocked with a patch, and any difference between Lama and live in terms of space taken up is something else. For example, I dont think Lama uses the exact same client software as live.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

Well, no. I can't know for sure as I don't work for Turbine doing update pushes. I can give an informed estimate based on what's live and what's preview which is what I did. There certainly may be debug symbols in the executables for the preview installation, but that would amount to at most another 5% of total file size (which would mean Turbine uses far more instrumentation than I suspect they do). Comparing data file sizes is likely much closer to reality. I could probably get closer by doing a complete re-install of both distribution sets but that would be rather time consuming and the results may or may not be significantly different.
It also seems to take up more memory which will probably hurt anyone trying to still 2-box with 4 gigs of RAM on a 32 bit OS.
