Default 2-Man Speedrun Melee Hard Abbot -- Over Raided

Nix and I completed Abbot on hard tonight:

It was meant as a speedrun with 2 people, i.e. fastest that can be done using just 2 people. So the puzzles were done in one round. We could have gone with either tiles => ice => asteroids or ice => tiles => asteroids, but in this run it was ice => tiles => asteroids, meaning that we'd complete both ice and tiles and enter into asteroids before the ddoors went down (within 90 seconds). You guys have probably seen us at Abbot's door quite a bit lately to practice; incidentally, a lot of time went into practicing roids due to invis/indestructible asteroids, especially when there's only 2 people throwing rocks. We also spent quite a bit of time just doing roids => main fight to practice those two parts of the raid.

The main strategy was using high saves and (improved) evasion to reduce incoming damage, and vampirism and good healing amp for when we did take damage. In this respect, it was similar to past runs of ToD/VoD for example that use high AC builds. In this case, however, Abbot's damage largely came from spells, and so it was high saves instead (to reduce incoming spell damage) rather than high AC (to reduce incoming physical damage). We would use cure serious pots on the run whenever the Abbot teleported around to improve our healing as well, although it wasn't strictly necessary (as we had vamp wraps), just that it sped things along. In a group fight, I think having good saves to reduce incoming damage is actually more important than your DPS, so making sure you got +dex, +con, and +5 resist items is likely more important than making sure you have triple pos.

I heard Nix is going to start giving out free completions if you have enough FRDS/TP so bug him, not me, about them. Really.

The most important thing to note is that Nix got the kill. What a kill-stealer.

    Wow! Congrats!

I don't have any FRDSs to spare. But, I've been interested in running/learning Abbot. I was a little disheartened about the news with the impossible to hit asteroids. That, and I think R has once again shelved his Abbot runs.

If you make a regular thing of it, I'd love to come along. Metalbone's got some decent saves, and a x3 positive maul to break DR and help bring the DPS.

We had afew practice runs just for the asteroids alone , it seams that the "unbreakable" and "invis" roids share the same server-client lag issues.
Abbot was always a buggy raid... theres still stuff that needs to be fixed in there.

Aside of that the raid is fun and i still enjoy running it now and then.

I did started leading some pugs abbots , but that was quite a while back and i always had a minimum of 3-4 guildies to help.
All i can say is that i soon gaved up just because of the "know it all and dont want to listen".
Abbot requires ppl to listen to instruction , ppl willing to learn the raid and such , things that the Orien pug population lacks sadly.
The raid itself is not as hard as many would think, it only requires that everyone contributes and communicates.

PS. My screenshot is better then yours Ua!

I wouldn't resort to that kind of blanket statements.
With the help of a very patient Shataan, the Orien server population now has some more people who can guide Tiles.

Not a blanket statement at all , u can count the ppl who can successfully lead a 1 round abbot pug and guide or be guided in tiles on orien on one hand...
Shat is one of the very few , and he was willing to listen and learn.

Now please lets not derail this even more, thanks.

Sadly what you said about tiles is correct, and sadly, while leading pug abbots i realised that people weren't actually learning, they were just getting carried most of the time. And it's not me that i wasnt letting people 'try' tiles, if they really wanted to learn it they should do practise runs instead wasting the time of 11 people. Sorry for derailing, i felt the need to say these, i was leading pugs till i got my stuff, i really wanted to give up earlier, was painful. This raid can be really fun when you dont have to hold everyone from the hand and ask him 10 times to do 1 thing.

On topic now, that achievement is really impressive, i know you guys have dedicated lots of time testing things in there, and except from the quick puzzle solving, this was a very good time beating the abbot. Very nice job, congratulations and keep going
