Given how easy it is to acquire, one wonders why Shade thinks it's "good for the game" to stick it to the bards that were using it. I think it had something to do with rewarding mediocrity (which Shade has decided is "good for the game"), but I'm struggling to figure out how this rewards mediocre bards. Maybe Shade can enlighten us here.
another way the spell pass hurt bards was actually costs. not only did most of the bard spells not have their costs adjusted, but bards with absolutely no way to reduce the cost of the heighten metamagic are really suffering with our lower SP amounts when it comes to heightened spells. also maximised and empower, i suppose, but i've yet to see anyone get too worried about that for sound burst, sonic blast, shout, or greater shout yet... the cures it certainly doesn't help, though.
but seriously, my resistible dance costs as much as my irresistible dance.
also, there's the fact that instakill immunity was removed, but not the extreme charm resistance.
but yeah, bards need some fixing. spellsinger needs to have better spells, warchanter needs to have more personal DPS, and virtuoso... well, virtuoso needs songs that actually function the way they should. for example, enthrall. great song. wonderful even. too bad it doesn't count as fascinate so that you can't use suggestion or other effects that rely on fascinate. their healing song; way too weak. and it also doesn't work on toasters. needs to scale in some way or another. it also needs to not remove spellsong vigor. their dance song? well, it's not too bad, but... single target? really? so that covers the first 20 monsters you meet. what about the next hundred? (or more)...
I'm probably going to get thrown into an alleyway and shanked because I'm about to say this but... People need to leave Shade alone. No one here says who can and cannot post their opinions, and shutting someones ideas down so completely is basically deciding that. Just because I don't have a barbarian it's not as though I can't be interested in whats happening to them and say what i think about it. And I certainly wouldn't expect to be bashed like that if I did post something like he did for another class I'm not familiar with. Also, who is to say his conclusion isn't as thought out as yours? You are not privy to other people's thought processes or powers of research.
Love you all. Have a pleasant tomorrow.
Personally, I agree that the dev's seem to hate both bards and clerics. They don't seem to get much love.
Both have few really cool items and seem to get ignored in newer items - at 20, I still use that level 13 ring, gloves, and tiara set because of a lack of really useful items for my bard. The rest of his gear is stuff primarily for other classes.
At least the bard has a "destiny", while clerics don't even have a "real" destiny - they have to use Paladins or Favored Souls. But, honestly, I didn't find a whole lot of "thrill" in the epic line for my healing and CC spe'd bard.
Bard and cleric were two of my favorite classes, but they are becoming less and less fun to play. Everyone wants a "healer", but it's expensive to play healer (as a bard or cleric) and you don't get much love and respect for doing so. If there's not enough DPS, the group complains that they couldn't get enough healing - well, if you can't DPS things fast enough, yes, you run out of ability to keep healing forever.
I normally hate to accuse the dev's of being totally cruel and hateful, but they honestly do seem to hate healers and hate bards and clerics in particular.
Yehediah (Dwarf Cleric), Zeddek (Human Favored Soul)
Mezros (Drow Bard), Fieris (Drow Wizard)
Freibo (Halfling Rogue)
Not exactly the case, or rather, it's overly simplistic. I've played other MMO's and DDO for a long time.
IF you make a class more attractive (better gear for it, better enhancements/destinies/etc.), THEN, you usually see greater popularity. A better assumption is: Greater perceived power = greater popularity
Yehediah (Dwarf Cleric), Zeddek (Human Favored Soul)
Mezros (Drow Bard), Fieris (Drow Wizard)
Freibo (Halfling Rogue)
