    Arrow Lights... Camera... ACTION!

So after sitting through the boring Avengers movie with the gang, i got home and got to thinking.... (yea, uh-oh! )
Why can't we have a really good Dungeons and Dragons movie?
I know, there have been a few attempts already, and they were laughable.
I may not be a huge action/adventure movie fan, but i would gladly shell out the time and money for it.

Things i would like to see:
    • Wizard/Sorc using thier powers in a major battle. Imagine the fireworks going on there... wow...
    • The Hero... a Fighter/Barb/Pally -whatever... the classic boy to man arrival. Feats of strength and courage... (must be a hearthrob!)
    • The Arcane Archer (not Legolas either, a grrl, Kicking booty!)
    • The Rogue... and i mean really doing his thing. So important. Johnny Depp would be nice here
    • The Cleric, ditto... healing and absolutely destroying the undead. (Stooopid Undead! )
    • There MUST be a Dungeon... and there MUST be a Dragon!
OMG i would die for this to happen...
The question is... who owns the rights to D&D now? Is there some stumbling block we dont know about that prevents it from being done?
PS: Warner Brothers is connected to DDO... would'nt it be like... logical? -for them to take on this project? ~Just say'n...

*scratches head* If you considered Avengers boring... why would you consider a DnD movie exciting?

    I mean....

Hulk : frenzided berzerker, loaded with regen items.
    Capt. Amer. : staltwart Defender.
    Black Widdow : assassin.
Hawkeye : deepwood sniper probably cross classed with rogue.
Thor : Kensai with a magicall warhammer.
Iron Man: .... 2 thoughts. WF sorc or human arti

So, you're saying a D&D movie, right? Not a DDO movie?

A (good) D&D movie would be epic, a DDO movie would be a comedy:

Paladin "I come forth to smite the evil demons of..."

Wizard <casts Wail of the Banshee>

<a little later, down the trail>

Paladin "Thou foulest beast, I send you back..."

    Rogue <thwap assassinate>

Paladin <throws down his sword and shield and walks home>
    Completionist Lighthardtt Tuisian of Sarlona
    leader emeritus, Bridge Burners

If I recall correctly, there was a little movie that came out about, oh, 10-12 years ago that was a lot like this. Some Kiwi fellow did it. Made quite a splash at the time. I guess people have forgotten about it by now.

    Hmmm... complicated answer.
I'm not into guyflix... action/adventure/chestthumping whatever...
I appreciated the few bits of humor in it, but overall just kind of boring to me... i never read the comics so i didnt understand a lot of it in the first place... which, would have helped.
The Lord of the Rings held my attention because of the hunks in it and it was *sort of D&Dish...
Hope that helps a little. I didnt mean to slam the Avengers. I recognize a lot of people liked it. And dont worry, i still havent heard the end of it from me guyz i went with to see it.... whatever~

Speaking of, I cannot WAIT for Hobbit. All I can think about is epic battles with Dwarves! (I know it'll be part 2, but still!)

The Battle of the Five Armies is going to make the Battle of Pelennor Fields look like a tussle on the playground.

You mean Smaug to be voiced by the coolest name ever? Namely one Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch!

That would be due to the immense awfulness of the film. It had a Wayans in it. Horrifically inappropriate.

Sadly the best movie I have seen in the past, what, 30 years, in this realm outside of the LoTR movies was Dorkness Rising. Sad because it was a low budget comedy, but it was the only one that actually *got* the content.

You may need to scroll back up to see what I added to it.
Really sounds like you want eye candy dressed in a certain way more than an action film. I'm not going to give you grief about not liking the movie. I mean to each their own. I was just stating... Fantasy armor? Check. Magical villains? Check. Army of bad guys vs. a small group that can't really seem to pull it together? Check.

That first one? oh man, am I ever glad I avoided that like the plague.

Now the 2nd dnd movie was bad, but that was mostly scripting, but they did a pretty decent job with content. Puzzle traps, a dragon eating people, war hammer of emince size, teleportation under pressure and ending up embedded in stone...

Wrath of the Dragon God if I recall the name right.

Oh, Dorkness Rising. I saw that and still cringe to admit so. While the movie did genuinely reflect the gamer experience, it only made more poignant the sad but true fact that most gamer humor is better left 'round the table.

Personally, I'm more interested in viewing Knights of Badassdom. I don't know that it's been released as of yet in the US, but I have seen a trailer for it.

    Ernest Gary Gygax (July 27, 1938 – March 4, 2008)

There is even posts about it right here in the forums.

Co creator, Dave Arneson is dead as well. Both he and Gary have Memorials up in their respective quests. Gary in Delera's, and Dave in Threnal.

as I missed a question in your OP, WotC/Hasbro owns the rights to DnD.
