From time to time when trying to climb a ladder my character's fruit bat companion gets in its face and then the character can't seem to climb the ladder. So you're stuck. However, a work-around is to back up until the bat isn't visible then re-approach the ladder and your character can now climb the ladder.
So while there is a work-around this shouldn't happen.

Even better put the thing away. The only bug I see is the user needing to have these things out in Quests.
