Default Need help with a high dex build

    Hello DDO world

    I need some advice.

I wanted to try and build a high dex Favored soul build that uses bows for range and two handed wep finesse for melee.

I wanted to use a Drow elf. In order to get the max bonus from Dex. I wanted to see if there is a viable way to preserve a good offensive spell ability but also preserve enough range and melee ability.

My largest question is if this is even viable or not good to do. I have never played a favored soul so I am not sure of their divine spells would be worth keeping for offense.

    Here is the starting stats.

    Str - 10
    Dex - 17
    Con - 12
    Int - 10
    Wis - 14
    Cha - 16

The end stats would be max dex basically with Cha also being high.

Before I go forward with building this. Is a high dex Favored soul any good? Is it viable for low and medium solo but can be useful in high level content groups?

Just asking those who have played a favored soul to see if this is a good idea or not.

Can't speak to your DEX question, but I would make CHA 14 and WIS 16. Favored Soul DCs for spells is wisdom based, so if you plan on being an offensive caster you'll want WIS.

Awesome thanks. I wasn't sure what that exactly meant in the class description.

Default Looks like a disaster to me :(

Follow the link above, you will see while the last attempt to do this never got started.

[note, if you really want to do this, you probably need to go elf/half elf and make a arcane archer. Trying to do any archery without AA is wasted. I strongly doubt a FVS makes a good AA.]

First, charisma is a "tax stat". You only need to scrounge up enough charisma to cast level 9 spells (19 charisma by level 18). The only other things it helps for is diplomacy (I haven't hit the button in ages) and minor increase in spell points. Some will swear that you can't finish Abbot without being able to hit 19 without items (due to a disjunction spell), but I can't believe it is worth building for. Starting with 10+6 item+2 tome+1 enhancement will get you there, if you don't have spare charisma items lying around, you can go to 11 or 12, but it gets expensive.

Not maxing wisdom means losing a lot of offensive spell power. Don't go there.

All dexterity does is allows you to hit your target with a bow. Damage comes from strength and effects. Know that crits multiply strength bonuses but not effects. An archer should have bow strength and be strong (strength would be wasted without bow strength, but most characters work much better with 10 starting strength). If you want to take ITWF/GTWF you can buy a +1/2 tome by then (hint, sell crafting ingredients), and you aren't likely to have enough room for PS/IPS (which would likely need a 17 starting dex)

I've just taken a break leveling up a pure TWF FVS (superior soul). I suspect that he will be be one of the first in line for LR, presumably into an evoker or something without his useless melee flailing around. If you insist on high dex and archery, I would start with something like this and replace the monk levels with ranger levels (gives you access to TWF, rapid shot and bow strength, all must haves for your build). Note that monk would give you evasion (AC benefits are likely moot after expansion) and two of the three feats, and is much stronger if you are willing to drop the bow. Also feats are going to be tight, you are likely better of increasing your strength and dropping finesse (your DPS will thank you) and possibly carrying finesse weapons when just can't hit an enemy.

Finally, in one of those posts Impaqt mentioned "no longer has any 18/2 FVS", and this is a weaker variant of that.

PS. Make sure you play with Ron's planner before ever starting a build.
