Default MotU : Rise of the Battle-Casters!

With all the changes to AC and Hard-to-Kill / Haunted / *** else they come up with, it's obvious what Turbine's master plan is:

All PMs must become battle-casters! Just cast Wail / CoD, then whip out a master's touched weapon and cast DoTs when off timer for the next 2 minutes. Rinse and repeat.

Actually, I think that pales will become sorcs with bit less damage and with few extra spells that kill stuff instantly now.

not sure about fvs, though. implosion and shield mastery nerfs might just nerf them enough to be equal to arcanes. plus, exalted angel looks coolest of all the caster destinies based on my casual glance.

Facepalm at yet another thread by someone that has no idea how powerful casters presently are even in the parts of the live server game where everything is deathwarded.

I'd post a Star Trek double facepalm image, but I can't be bothered doing it for every one of these threads.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

There's one problem with nerfing healers hard...you nerf them hard people will want to reroll them or not make them. That's not a good thing. As is, my evoker is already TRed into a sorc for the expansion (with instant-kills being nerfed significantly through Haunting in its current state, it's better to be a class that's good at spell damage imo...and sorc also gives me a better starting point for epic destinies)...though my melee FvS seems to be getting a bump from the update (can't test it as it won't copy).

In all honesty, though, I would be surprised if the current version of Haunting is what's released...there's still 2 weeks in which it may get refined into a decent nerf rather than its current painful state (where dropping a wail can mean no instant-kills reliably going off for a couple minutes). I'm at least optimistic enough to hope that by expansion release, this all may be much smoother, and within a couple updates, casters and melees will be much more balanced in a way that both sides can appreciate (which is a serious hope of mine, as I have both a very well-geared melee and a very well-geared caster). Currently, though, my fear is that offensive casting divines will be looking to other classes to play (as I'm doing with mine), resulting in fewer healers in the end-game...I'm hoping more won't happen to cause this to occur.

    Kinda this.

The real problem is that today casters can do pretty well using tactic X, Y or Z. This change essentially eliminates Z from real practical contention and use.

Yes, I can out-murder things on my assassin in epics with less-geared or less-fast-on-the-keys wizards ... and that's a hoot. A good caster type though blows me away. I'm ok with the easy token, but I'm not going to sugar coat the truth.

Yes. The real problem is that casters ( well played, well built casters ) are like a Swiss-army knife. "Mundane" melees have a tool-box only full of hammers. That's great if you're only trying to hammer things down, but you don't really have any chances to pass an encounter with nothing but brute force. Most of the time you can't bring anything meaningful to the table that's not straight dps. Unfortunately/Luckily casters can bring dps + a huge bag of tricks.

So please Turbine, in the enhancements pass try to put melees on par with spell casters not by adding "moar dps" to the former. Try to give them more "utilities", more CC abilities, more self sufficiency, more tactical abilities... Something like what we're seeing in epic destinies, but expand upon that. Unfortunately even epic destinies are too focused on "more dps", rather than adding something that's not yet another hammer in the melee's toolbox

And yet another post where a vet with a million posts and past lives complains casters are too powerful... I'd post a doub...

    Oh, just never mind.

Turbine needs to stop breaking the game for the 0.00000000000001% of the elite of the elite.

Fix broken melees. That is what is needed. And stop comparing long range dps (casters) to short range dps (melees).

    Fix. Broken. Melees.

Casters (mainly PM's) definitely needed a nerf. Your melees shouldn't be trailing behind the caster in an epic trying to catch up as he wails/fingers/circle's everything. Thats not fun for anyone

I agree, and think they should fix melees so they can both catch up, and 'close the gap' between parties and enemies. Sprints, Charges, Teleports, and 'bring-to-me' type attacks are needed.

You can't compare long range attackers with short range attackers, it makes no sense.

It is like trying to compare cars and paperclips.

I do not agree that fun has to be removed from one class, at the expense of another.

Still hoping Turbine re-thinks their policy of punishing excellence - and haven't tr'ed yet.

If it becomes a return to buff-and-hold days - I will TR into a sorc, until Turbine caves to forum whiners about those too, and nerfs them too.

Then I will go play GW2, or possible the new Neverwinter MMO.

    From the soon-to-be-released notes:

Because of all the changes, which will make the entire game nearly unrecognizable to what we currently play: Turbine will be resetting all the data on their servers once the expansion is released. All player characters will be erased, to create an even playing ground for all the new players that are expected to join.
Also a new mechanic will be introduced:

If you play as a caster or divine or as a rogue or a monk, and use an insta-kill spell or effect while in any quest: an electric shock will be sent through your computer to your brain and a mysterious knock will be heard at your front door. When you answer the door, a monkey will jump out of the shadows and kick you in the nuts.
(disclaimer: ah, do I really need one?)

When I read the title, I thought this was a serious thread. I do indeed think it's time to break the battle-casters out of retirement... thankfully, most of his gear is BtC so it won't take much for me.

If you want to stop a battle caster,

introduce mana sapping weapons, abilities, or improve prevent spell casting items.
