Unless something has changed Improved Martial Arts is of dubious worth at best.

Last I checked Improved Martial Arts only improved your damage by 1[W] for Unarmed which means instead of say 7d6 you'd have 8d6 which on average is an increase of 3.5 damage. relatively small amount for an Epic Feat.

Now if it also increased the Centered Bonus by 1 degree that would be a little better... I mean Martial Arts isn't only about hitting things.

3.5 damage per hit is still quite a bit for monks considering how much they hit, although I do agree with you in that there are better options. Such as vorpal strikes, which would average out at 5 damage a swing, but that is probably off set a bit by the fact you have to put levels into wisdom.

mmm let s talk, monk level 18+2 fighter, level 12 improved martial arts, 14 fighter improved critical, 15 fighter improved martial arts + gtw, level 18 improved martial arts, 21 improved martial arts, 24 improved martial arts.
5d6 improved martial arts + 5d6 monk level 18+ active monk past life + byesk + vest. 10d6 base damage I think is good, but gran master of flowrs really suck, prefer 1000 time better fury of the wild

If improved martial arts is supposed to be available to pick multiple times then its bugged because I have a 20+3 Epic monk holding Epic+4 and while mock leveling up I don't have improved martial arts available on my list and I have already picked it once at level 21.

Being multipickable doesn't mean you can pick it up during heroic levels. It's still an epic feat which means you can pick it in your epic levels (21 or 24).

+3.5 damage from a feat is pretty significant. We pick Power Attack for +5 damage, and it comes with a to-hit penalty that may end up being significant. There's no penalty tied to this.

I agree that it could use some other bonus along with the damage, though.
    Maybe +3% Dodge?

Uh, guys, remember that +1[W] doesn't mean a SINGLE extra die of the appropriate size, it's an extra amount equal to the base damage done. So if you're a monk 18/fighter 2 with alky wraps or Garments of Equilibrium, plus Disciple of the Fist and IMA x5, you're doing 12d12 damage PER HIT! Add in TWF, ITWF, GTWF, and I-Crit [B], and it kinda gets obscene.

My understanding is that monk damage has been changed to a base weapon dice of d6 much like other weapon types (with monk levels, garments, etc all adding on a multiplier to base). Is this mistaken?

    Default Wait, what?

I've closely read the official live U14 Release Notes and Known Issues at least 4 times to check this before I asked this question.

When did monk unarmed damage become d6 with multipliers? I assume it was beta, because I can't find an official line regarding it at all in the official live notes. Since it isn't in the live release notes, was there a non-beta official note about this anywhere?

Also, in regards to the way Turbine's been doing the notes about increased weapon damage, 1[W] has meant in the past that a whole 'nother base increment of damage is applied. For example, a weapon that does d8 would do d8+d8.

If DDO wiki's new monk unarmed values are to be believed, then a lvl 21 monk with improved martial arts would be doing (3.5 x d6) + (3.5 x d6) for a base damage range of (3.5 to 21) + (3.5 to 21) or 7 to 42.

Am I correctly interpreting this information?

Weird... I could not find it too...

    But you are right.

They said it more than once, when they were talking about deadly weapons, about how they wanted to standardize weapon damage, so they could use new and different kinds of bonus.

All weapon damage now are treated as X*[W], where for monks the W is 1d6 and the X is the increase they get for leveling, items and etc. Some effects may give +0.5[W], or +1[W] or even +5[W] (momentum swing).

Does this potential break down look accurate? My monk is still a lowbie so I unfortunately can't test actual damage, and of course our damage display was removed from the inventory window for whatever reason..

    6x (Unarmed Strike)
1x Past Life Disciple of the Fist
    1x Epic Martial Arts
    1x Byeshk Alchemical Handwraps
    1x Reinforced Fists
    1.5x A Dance of Flowers
    .75x Dancing With Flame
    .5 Improved Power Attack

    12.75(1d6)?

If so, sign me up. :-)

I think your estimate is too high.

    3.5x (Unarmed Strike)
0.5x Past Life Disciple of the Fist
    1x Epic Martial Arts
    0.5x Byeshk Alchemical Handwraps*
    0.5x Reinforced Fists*
    1.5x A Dance of Flowers
    .75x Dancing With Flame
    0.5 Improved Power Attack

    for a total of ...

    8.75[1d6]

Assuming the Byeshk boost to damage actually stacks with Reinforced fists
    [REDACTED]

That's still a hefty increase in my base damage from 2d12. Where did you find the multiplier of Unarmed Strike and Disciple?
