    Default Monster Manual

I keep looking for the thread to comment on this and didn't see one so started one.

This Beta has it. You have to kill things to learn about them. That is fine and interesting. It is kind of like a free range slayer count. I do like that you are finally getting something for killing those 200 kobolds that assault you. It also could lead to doing some areas you wouldn't otherwise to kill that "rare" type of a mob like a big game hunter.

I find killing 1000 bats of x types an acceptable way to learn everything about them although killing 1000 orthons, tieflings, Lamanian (or Harry's) may take a while.

I would like it if the developers could have a tab that lists just the mobs in the current zone. I don't plan on killing 1000 Fire Elementals in Misery's Peak and Frost Mephits were not listed. But if I am out of combat I would like to be able to review Ogre Magi before I go into Madstone to adjust my weapons and spells. Also an alphabetic vs Class as a lookup or maybe even a level sorter if you are looking for Earth Elementals for your soul stones.
Any Port in a storm... But why one with so many vermin?

    That sounds really fun.
Hopefully we'll get Mounted Heads to put on our Guild Ships.

    Default tr

It would be used either way during tr. I think it should re-set to help level up at lower levels. That would provide a steady progress. However I would not have a problem getting all my kill counts to 999 then tr'ing and killing one more for instant leveling. A lot of people do that with shroud collectables now. Either way you do it, it takes up YOUR time. It's all relevant. But the second option would be sweeter. My only issue is to the dedicated healers and CC guys. They don't get a lot of kills....

There are two types of counters - character and account.

The character ones will reset - and you want them to, just as you would first time bonuses for quest completion.

The account ones will continue to accumulate - that's where the long term goals are anyway.

And for all the non-dps classes, 'kills' are party kills.

How is the monster manual being sold? I read it was free for VIP.

Will non vips have to buy it from ddo store? And if so how is it being sold?

Is it bundled with the adventure packs we own and buy or is it sold separately?

And can I just pay a flat fee of 500 points are whatever and unlock it all permanently?

Yes, non-VIPs will have to buy 'volumes' from the store. These will be free to VIPs. The first two volumes are 'Korthos sampler' which is free to all and 'Volume 1' which is free to Premium players (if I recall correctly). Subsequent volumes will only be free to VIPs.

A flat fee will unlock the volume permanently for your account (on that server).

How is the Monster Manual figured into preorders? I recall no mention of them in the pre-order screen.

In regards to the monster manual; when I loaded it up on lama, I saw no mention of xp grants or anything with it. Will it only give xp type rewards, or will there be bonuses against said monsters included in the account long-term goals?

Monster Manual is independent of MotU. In fact, it won't be ready for MotU launch.

It will certainly give XP rewards for character deed completion.

It's not intended to give you a bonus towards monsters but rather educate. What it will do, besides giving you info on immunities, etc is allow you to see a monster's HP (a reward).

Other account rewards can be cosmetic pets, Turbine Points, etc.

Typo I think. Monsters HP is what he meant i believe. Thats what shows as the rewards in the manual now.

PS: It's fairly functional for a few types atm:
    Kobolds
    Spiders
    Elementals

Got several deeds unlocked. Didnt pay attention if they granted xp or not tho.

I'm looking at the monster manual now, and I love the idea behind it. I'd like to see blips of info pop up on the page as you get through the deeds, I'd also like to see the xp rewards go up.. 3000 xp for killing 6250 zombies seems a little low, don't you think? I realize that you are working on it throughout your lifetime.. but what level do you expect a player to reach these goals?

My guess would be 15th level at the absolute earliest.. so shouldn't the reward for something that high be appropriate to the level range you get it in? I'd say 9k xp would be the minimum and a maximum of around 20k xp. Basically it should be "OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Essentially, I don't think it should be something that people normally go after, but if they are approaching their next deed they might be like.. I would normally do THAT.. but I'm so close.. let's do THIS instead. The rewards should be good enough at the level they are on that making that decision is logical.

I'd also like to see us able to earn more monster manuals eventually through the account wide completion of deeds.. something like "After completing 80 deeds, you unlock Monster Manual II".. make it high enough that people out-level their current monster manual several times before they reach the goal, but it's still accessible if you are willing to put in the time and effort.

I'm a little disappointed to hear it won't be making the launch for MOTU, but then it does still seem like there's a lot of work to go to make it fully functional.

I was actually hoping the Monster Manual might also be an alternative way of obtaining Turbine Points. Similar to how deeds work in LOTRO.

Actually, that would make me happy too instead of earning monster manuals they way I was talking about, just give us turbine points toward that purchase! In fact, you'd probably make more off of us this way, lol.. cause I'm an impulse buyer

Turbine Points are an account reward! Thanks for this as I forgot to mention it.

We hope to have it out in a patch.

They did for me! Not much, but it was a nice surprise bonus.

Can't wait for the monster manual working fully, it's a pretty neat little add on.
