Magic Fang for Ranger

now ranger got the magic fang spell on their level 1 spell list, but how can they enjoy it? target can be self/friend, but everything is not a animal, vermin, magic beast, dragon or fey is immune to this spell! and ranger cant turn into one of this form right? so, this spell, on a ranger, work only to buff a druid's pet or a wolf/bear druid?
