Will the new ac rules rule out monks?

Doubt it. I ran with a monk who's AC was just over 100. (109 when buffed.)

I believe him. He hardly got hit. I on the other hand had a 55ish AC and was a dmg magnet. I definitely need to work on my monk's AC a bit.

    He was well geared.

not only AC, but you get the dodge chances too, which apparantly is all tied together with any concealment/incorporeal stuff, so while im not certain about light monks, dark monks at least will be surprisingly hard to hit... the only thing i can see is the times they DO get hit, they'll typically have less mitigation so it'll hurt more.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

like to see how he got 100 + ac without any dodge bonuses - care to explain?

My monk lost close to 10 ac on lam - he definately did not gain the ac & PRR that other melee who use armor are getting

(& yes, I know I can play always in mountain stance, but that still gives me less PRR than fighters & Pally's & also pigeon holes me).

In the beta we were told that without an increase in AC & PRR we simply would find it very hard to survive & that that was the reason for the ac changes. Since monks will not benefit from this, it would seem, according to the developers, that monks may well be a thing of the past.

I just wish as many people would complain about this as the hard to kill....

It seems like monks should get some level based adjustment to dodge or AC or PRR to compensate for the fact that they're not able to wear heavy armor. In 3.5 they get a flat +1 AC class bonus for every 5 levels - but there's generally not the same AC inflation in PnP games.

I don't know how well monks will play post-patch but it seems like there should be something to compensate for the fact that they're supposed to be a good AC class without needing heavy armor. (Not even getting into the idea that in 3.5 dex+armor was supposed to be held approximately the same so that light armor with high dex was still supposed to be comparable AC to heavy armor, but heavy armor had more class and movement restrictions.)

there were a number of suggestion of how, if not to fix this, to help alleviate some of the problem. Unfortunately, Turbine has deemed that they don't need to answer us (this obviously isn't the only issue they aren't listening to)

ATM, I would find it difficult to advise anyone to play a monk at higher lvls & monks may well become the new rangers (oddly, rangers are a bit better off with the new ac changes....)

I'd heard that actual armor was going to play a part. Where the dude in the bathrobe was on the short end of the stick.

Yes, that is pretty much the point. Seeing as how the system that DDO is loosely based on did not strongly weight AC in favor of heavier armor, but instead used armor + stats + magic, and the monk got to have high Armor class even in his PJs.

Just curious what content were you running with 55AC?
if your running shroud on norm and getting hit all the time but epics, elite ToD , etc...Well then what did you expect?
Move along , Nothing to see here
