    Default Power Word Kill - as the name implies

    Power Word Kill in current content is as the name implies, it will instantly kill a Mob or Orange named sub boss as long as the caster bypasses the targets Spell resistance.

    This spell was a 'decent' spell for epics as it allowed the caster to 'take care' of that one big Orange named melee but at the expense of a very, very long cooldown.

    With the Hard to Kill update coming on epics with U14 outside of normal epics this spell is taking a real hit, previously it was good for that almost guaranteed 'One shot kill' now it will be one of the lamest spells in the game.

    I really think Turbine should look at doing two things for it:
    A: Shortening its cooldown a little (2/3s of what it is now, or whatever)
    B: Allowing it to bypass the Hard to Kill mechanic.

    Just some thoughts on this one spell, I'm not totally for this new Hard to Kill mechanic as I just finished levelling my PM again for this update and it really does seem to me that Sorcs are going to be the big winners from this update.
    Previously it was almost like PMs, Necro Specced Wizards better at killing mobs in epic than Socerors (just) and far behind on Boss DPS, now it's just Sorcs = Best at everything in Hard Epic and above. But of course this is all for one of those other threads.

    Really, the spell should bypass the immunities on anything but non-bosses.
    Otherwise it's just

    Power word : Nudge

    We're talking about 1 spell, with an enormous cool down. This would hardly be OP.

    Problem is, you can cast dozens of them every day. I dont think PnP ever envisioned this.

    Though it would be good if it hit harder.

    I don't think that PnP envisioned almost all named gear to be more that just the one either, in the one campaign setting

    Huh? PWK hasn't worked on orange-names in epics since like 2 weeks or so after U9 hit

    Yet another thing that boggles me.

    A year ago, Turbine ran a spell pass that rebalanced spells, making many useless ones useful. Power Word Kill had been useless because it only worked on enemies with under something like 300 HP--at that point you may as well just nuke them, or let a melee hit them 3 times. They rebalanced effects, casting time, duration, metamagics, removed the most problematic portions of Epic Ward, and made the end game more interesting to a lot of players.

    Now, they've seen that some insta-kill spells (notably AoEs) can be problematic when left relatively unchecked, and they're reverting on half of what they fixed a year ago.

    PWK becomes the same useless spell it was then, unless it somehow starts working on monsters with tens of thousands of HP, but since it doesn't work on orange named, and no one is going to enjoy fighting trash with that many HP, what purpose will it have? What purpose will there be in using Wail of the Banshee or Finger of Death? If you have to wait for the monster to get under 50% of their HP, you're probably better off using a nuke that targets a weak save and has an effect regardless, and will likely kill your enemies that are at half HP with as much, or more, reliability as using the death effects.

    I can't agree with all this complaining about the nerf to insta-kills...this is REAL epic we are going to....would you rather have hard to kill implemented or mobs with fort saves so high we would have to spam Energy Drain 3-4 times before we could get a chance at insta-killing them...personally I am very much looking forward to doing these epics and seeing how the new teamwork is going to pan out.

    You can always stay in Heroic land if you wanna use the stuff the way it is now......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
