Default What Happens to my Elven Chainmail? And Brigadines?

So, I totally understand the limiting of armor types. We had a bazillion and they didn't mean anything.

But what happens to all the padded armor, splint armor, brigadines and elven chainmail, etc?

I have actually spent a silly amount of time and plat buying different armors off the AH then reselling the ugly ones until I found ones that were unique and different to craft on.

When the expansion launches... what happens to these armors? Are they converted to the stats of whatever is closest while maintaining their skin... or are they replaced with an equivalent random armor that is still in the game?

(Will be very annoyed if my brightly colored brigadines turn into mousy breastplates...)

Well, theoretically, they should change into the new versions.

We already know special armor types won't get their benefits for PRR ... new versions are NEW and different than you're used to with D&D.

But are all the skins for those armors being eliminated? That's really my question.

I've crafted a bunch of things on specific armors for their appearance...

    They shouldn't change at all.

No it isn't great news. It means that it will be relegated to the trash heap because it won't benefit from the new AC changes. I do see your point though if your concern is purely cosmetic.

Or you misread the post. The original question was will the skins change at all? and the developer response was it wouldn't change at all. This means the skins will be the same but the armor type will still change.

EVERY armor will have adjusted base AC stats for their category.

Have a link for that info? I was under the impression (could be completely wrong) that all existing random armor (the stuff you can craft on) wouldn't be touched at all. This would relegate it to the lowest of the low in terms of armor bonus and worthless for AC. I hope not because I do the same thing regarding random armor. Keep the good looking stuff to craft on.

It's based on mlevel of the armor. Discussion was in old AC thread but not sure if that has continued to open beta. Unfortunately havent' transferred my crafter over to PTR so can't make stuff of significant level to show you.

I do know from gameplay, however, that deconstructing certain random drops from new content will artificially set mlevel to a certain level (see: absolute minimum level equipment) to maintain increased statistics (i.e. for epic weapon dice).

I have a near-caped crafter, did do a comparison, and dispute the claim that ML by it's self ups the AC. That may be the eventual intent, but it is not at this point in time a reality. And until I log in and see it, I'm not going to put any faith in supposition.

    It's not the intent.
Existing randomly generated armors are not changing at all.
New ones will now appear in various level ranges.
If you disjunction those ones, they will keep their higher base stats and can be crafted on.

Necro: please add "Skirmish/Battle/Mountain/Magecraft/Spiritcraft etc. to the crafting shard system (along with the absolute min level they bring) so GOOD LOOKING old armor can be crafted on again.

Elven Chainmail is the coolest looking armor in the game. But's it's useless past level 8 because the PRR and AC on the new armors makes old armors obsolete.

The new Armors all look identical and like complete ****. Cannith crafting is nearly useless as it stands, adding some cosmetic utility and allowing cool looking armor to be improved to the new system might revive Cannith crafting.

Also consider new crafting shards that allow the look of one armor to be transfered to a more effective armor.

All could be avoided if DDO would step up into 1997 and add cosmetic features that every other MMO has had since UO.

    /Signed to upgrading Elven Chainmail - This should be done by the devs however {with a Stone of Change recipe added for old versions} - Although I don't feel the same about it's looks {subjective}

I personally have seen plenty of New Armours I actually like the look of...However I will say that Upgrades to old armours should be considered

    /Signed - Emphatically!

    /Exaggerated maybe but /Signed anyway

Obviously we're on the same page but I don't think the last point was exaggerated. I mean if you look at it DDO's only appearance customization is character creation. Ultima Online (1997) had that, and then the ability to craft/forge/taylor and then dye anything with multiple pieces visible on the character, shining armor with a sircoat dyed any color? It had that, visible cloak also whatever color you wanted, etc.... Pretty much every MMO since has had a myriad of options (can't think of a AAA title that is even close to as bare bones as DDO).

I know there are players who don't care, but IMO making your characters look how you want is a part of the draw to MMO's. Being visually identifiable in a group, or social setting even has an impact on gameplay, and looking how you want has impact on immersion how much you tie in with your character and just general fun factor.

DDO is literally without exaggeration, the only MMO I've ever played where I can honestly say I've not ONCE run past someone I recognize in a public area. Not even during Mabar or Cove.

Anyway I think it's an interesting discussion and one that needs to get hashed out again in light of how utterly "fail" the armor appearance kits are.

Brass tacks: one skin artist making a dozen skins and 3 cosmetic "double click every time you log on" hats can not make a visually diverse and uniquely identifiable player base. This is a function best left to the players imaginations.

Only came to DDO because of PnP - Have tried LotrO and Allods since and neither has character graphics I liked at all

I've run past plenty of people I've recognised - on multiple servers - Do you have Names switched off or something?

I rather like quite a few of the Armour Kits personally - Not saying I wouldn't like more - I do feel that the prices are all over the place and in some cases insanely high BUT there's nothing really bad about any of the graphics in my opinion

The issue here is that Everyone and his dog wears the pug-ugly Minos for 7-10 Levels

    P.S. /Signed to more Cosmetic items - Headgear, Gloves, Cloaks, Boots please - And NOT Items like the Spider Mask {I really don't like that I have to lose the look of a helm or hat I actually like to have this work.}
