I do appreciate the sacrifice of all of the troops living at home and overseas and all of the veterans living among us and abroad. I am glad that they volunteered to stand for our defense.
But Memorial Day isn't for them.
Memorial Day is for the soldiers who died.
Please don't disrespect our fallen soldiers by giving away their day to the soldiers still living.
Keep your politics out of my DDO and stop trying to play the dead vet card to defend your ill guided choice of subforum.
I find this thread offensive, that you would dishonor vets by trying to bring this into a video game forum of all places. There are far more appropriate venues, this is a seriously poor choice.

A study by the University of Baghdad pointed out that cases of birth defects had increased tenfold in Basra two years before the invasion in 2003. The trend is still on the rise.
So your point is?
maybe you should read articals before posting them to support your cause, not that military weapons could never cause such terrors, but it is clearly stated that it started well before the invasion.
Also if you leave places like that alone you end up with more people dead than the "invasion" did, iv been there, and Bosnia at the hight of the war, do not tell me that our forces are war moungers, not that some individuals didint do terrible things, but when they did the respective countries did there utmost to bring the people responsable to trial.
That sir is the job that we take on when our elected goverment tells us to go to war, note the elected part, assuming we are not being asked to target civilians directly, and take as much care as we can to limit casulties then there is nothing unlawfull about a soildiers job.
The line between lawfull and unlawfull is very very thin, before you have been in harms way dont presume to know how you would act, or how your actions may look from thousands of miles away behind a computer screen.\
Please let people remember the lost in a respectfull way, or someday when we the few are needed, we might just not be there any more.
Dont like the way things are run in a country, use your voting rights to change it.
I would like to take this moment to thank all the hirelings that have died in my service. Caraneth, you were my favorite. RIP

Actually, it's not always that cut and dry; hypothetically a country can become a threat without actually invading it. There are numerous examples throughout history were a country attempted to distabilize and sabotage an enemy long before a military invasion. Sun Tzu even wrote a book about it (Art of War). Also, during the Cold War the US never invaded Russia but that did not keep Russia from claiming capitalist America is a danger to their country and vice-versa.
You might not but when I was still living in Vienna I knew a good amount of Croatians and many of them would frequently mention their appreciation for those brave men who risked their life for their country and they could get quite irate if someone got in the way of them celebrating their military. Heck, I knew a guy who despised his own dad for fleeing the country instead of staying and fighting.
The latter is actually more commonly used the defining trait of aggression; if the countries freedom is threatened or (how the US puts it) if someone becomes a "clear and present danger to the US, its people or their way of life". To date, the US never has initiated any type of violent conflict unless someone posed a clear and present danger to them. The disagreement is usually about what constitutes a clear and present danger to the US and how sometimes some American politicians are too liberal in their interpretation of "clear and present danger".
The holiday does not make this distinction though; the tradition has its roots in the Civil War, were - strictly spoken - the only country invaded by the US was the US itself. Later (in the 20th century) people questioned if the soldiers fallen in the World Wars don't deserve similar honors as those fallen in the Civil War and the holiday was extended to include all wars (although at that time no one thought of things like Vietnam, Iraq or Afghan wars). So, the individual American may not agree with the Afghan war but that does not prevent him from using the occasion to commemorate his grandfather who has fallen in WWII.
Finally, today many Americans (many of those I know anyway) observe Memorial Day as an occasion for more general commemorations, such as visiting the graves of their dead relatives (whether they had served in the military or not), honoring other public servants that died in the line of duty (particularly police- and firemen), devoting the weekend to family gatherings, etc. I can understand them getting a little bit defensive if then they are called out as war mongers, ignorant and otherwise insulted just because their mention of the holiday on a forum.
Also, the forum is not only about DDO. Its about community. That's why you will find all kinds of things discussed here from holidays, movies to the superbowl and even soccer and only because the OP posted the topic in the wrong thread (General Discussion instead of Off Topic) doesn't change that.

The problem with threads like this is that there are always people who suddenly have....
...and seem to forget that its all about this.....
...that is all and may god (of your choice if any) bless those that have paid the ultimate price for what they belive in.
