I'm currently trying out an Artificer, and I must admit that the repeating crossbow impresses me very much.

I think I should give my Ranger the skill/feat/UMD/whatever to use it, too.

Can't use many shot with a crossbow unfortunately.
I tried.
I'd stick with bows on your ranger if I were you. Get the Bow of Sinew, Parasitic Breastplate, Windhowlers, and the Symbiont. And you're pretty much set. A few specialized bows for certain mobs/bosses isn't a bad idea, but the Bow of Sinew works on pretty much everything.
My ranger is holding at lvl 18 now, and he's pretty darn deadly. When I get a crit with my slaying imbue and deadly weapons if an arti's in the group, it's 750 damage at least.
And many shot with both of those active, and IPS of course, just cuts the enemies down like it's nothing.
I just rolled another arti a few days ago, and I forgot how much fun they are.
Is it wrong to like both classes?

these tunnel entrances are the perfect place for eny rangers to do heavy damge on melees until the melees can reach them - because the enemy rangers it on high cliffs (or something like that) which melees just can't instantly reach.

In the worst case, the "entrance" to the "cliff" is so that the melees need to run several kilometres (you know what i mean) until they finally find a ledge so that they can climb on the cliff.

Which gives the enemy rangers & casters more than enough time to mow down the melees - who then complain that they don't get healed enough, possibly.

This is the exact point where there is actual need for a ranger : To get other, enemy ranged "damage makers" (namely casters, too).

So far i only once played this quest with my guild mates (until heavy tirednees prevented me for pursueing the uest firther, because we live in entirely different time zones, but they already knew hat), and these tunnel entrances are the only place where there is real need for ranged party members.

In that quest, i took out an enemy red named ranger who was trying to kill the group's rogue who was trying to take out the traps there.

An rogue who is constantly pricked by enemy arrows just a) cannot concentrate in taking out a trap, b) is risking his life for others, c)needs to be constantly healed.

And this healing is missing in oher parts of the quest.

Simple solution : Taking out the enemy ranged damage-makers before they get a chance to wound the rogue. It's as simple as that.

The result would be the rogue having more than enough time to take out the trap afterwards, being in full control and full concentration, and doesn't need to be healed.

It's a matter of efficiency.

Actually, this is a matter of stone,paper,scissors.

No thanks. I've been building rangers since 2007. I know how to make a useful, self sufficient, and 100% soloable ranger on most elite quests.

I've built all 3 types of rangers (even deepwood sniper) and pretty decent toons; if I do say so myself. Ranger is my favourite class, and once they get improvements in the update after the xpack, rangers will once again be a non gimp class.

I can always tell when I'm speaking to a toddler. I got 4 years on you, over 15 characters more then half are capped the others tr'd, I been there done that. Tried every build and even goofed off with some, and for a peasant to tell the knight he's better well I hope you can figure out the rest.
