    Default ddo and linux

I saw an advertisement for ddo on the linux mint forums, seeing that (my guess) everyone on those forums that would see it is running linux, is there a linux based client in the works? (please please please) and yes I already know about and use pylotro

I use linux mint 12 (64). and a combination of WINE. WINE-Tricks, and PyLoTRO to run the game.

As yet I have not seen or heard about a "native" version for linux , other games like HoN (Heroes of NewEarth) have a native installer and binary, so it certainly can be done, but I think the amount of users running linux that play DDO would be very small.

On a side note, if there was a client released native to linux I am sure it would generate a fairly large influx of new players as there are not many really "good" games out there that do, and running everything through WINE has it's limits, like being unable to run DX10 or 11 and also being unable to utilise the full power of the hardware.

You "should" be able to change res with no problems, there must be an issue there, most likely (i'm guessing here), to do with the OpenGL implementation in WINE.

Sometimes it helps to re-install the graphics drivers for your card / roll them back to the "recommended" ones for the distro when it came out.

I still get some graphic glitches and things like that but overall it's pretty good.

(I do have windows 7 on dual boot, so if it all gets too much of a hassle (like not being able to alt-tab back to desktop) then I just reboot and run it in windoze.

Turbine : Any chance of a native linux version ?

That's not a wine or linux issue... i've been playing on the combo for years now, and never had that problem.

Pylotro + wine works very well.

I normally use the latest version from the wine repositories. DDO always worked for me, but some other games need more messing around.

If the Ubuntu/mint version is not working, it is easy to try different build versions of wine from the official repositories.

I use wine 1.3 I looked at the update notes for 1.4 but as far as I can tell the only real improvement is a few languages, says nothing about games working better
