    Default Elves......urk

Personally I feel like elves are wayyyyy too ugly.

I mean, Drow are cross-eyed, helf females are plastic barbie dolls....and so are the guys >.<
And let's not even get started on the regular elves, there is no such ugly as Nose option 3 on an orange elf ranger.

*laughs* if you actually look at what things are "supposed" to look like, you will find DDO elves look like 3.x half elves. Which in turn makes DDO half elves more like quarter elves.

Didn't have any such issues while making a slew of pretty elfin bank toons. Maybe they changed male elves after too many "still the prettiest one" comments.

For a more traditional look at elves, I recommend Lord's and Ladies by Terry Pratchett. Actually I recommend Pratchett for all your generic fantasy decompression needs.

This is actually something in DDO that bothers me. Elves (and Drow to a slightly lesser degree) are supposed to be very beautiful, very aesthetic people. While not 'impossibly beautiful and perfect' like in Tolkien's Middle Earth, they're supposed to have a sort of exotic, otherworldly beauty to them; DDO completely loses that. The other races (except the hideous half-elves) seem fine:

    - Humans (esp the males) are slightly rugged in appearance
    - Half-Orcs are slightly uglier than humans ad slightly prettier than orcs
    - Dwarves are very stocky with beards and very similar faces
    - Halflings are very thin and there's a quickness about their features
    - Warforged are...well, they do look very woody

It's Elves, Drow, and Half-Elves that look ugly, when they're supposed to be the centerfold models of the D&D universe.

I'll cry if DDO comes out with the Kalashtar, I don't want Turbine to turn them into plastic barbie dolls.

+1 for the reference to a truly great novel and a truly awesome Author.

Before reading Lord's and Ladies though I'd suggest starting with Equal Rites, Going on to Wyrd Sisters and then reading Witches Abroad.

Only then will you be ready for Lord's and Ladies!

Aesthetics are a major reason I roll elves (probably the only one at this state of the game) ... eye of the beholder and all that. /shrug
