    Default Suggestions?

I currently have a level 12 drow bard (virtuoso build). When I am in groups he does very well; his CC is very good and he is a good healer.

When I try to solo him or use a single hireling it does not go very well. I built him with CC and healing in mind, and his melee and ranged attacks are poor to moderate. I use Master's Touch and use the Hammer of the Leaden Clouds with a shield, or I use the Petrifying War Bow from the Lordsmarch quests. His charm and hold spells hit more often than not, and his disco ball works quite well, but his DPS is such that it takes forever for him to beat mobs down, and he can forget about soloing a boss.

In groups I tend to buff, sing songs, and when combat starts, throw some CC spells, spot heal when needed, and either pew-pew with my bow or melee with my hammer (neither of which does a lot of damage.) I did a normal run of Madstone Crater last night and finished with 3 kills.

I'm sure if I had a few past lives on him it would be a bit easier (he is a first life character.) I currently use him for guild events when I have no other characters in that level range, and other than that I don't really play him.

Any suggestions on soloing a virtuoso bard? And suggestions in general for leveling a first life bard without great gear?
All on Thelanis: Archenpaul Sixblade (Epic Triple Completionist), Archernicus Thornwood, Crestellin Moonwood, Gregorovic Redcloak, Jaklomeo Evermug, Jarladdin Nalfesne, Jonathraxius Kane, and Praetoreus Silvershield (Heroic Triple Completionist, Epic Triple Completionist.)

Leader of Guinness Knights (Level 165), which is (since June 2021) a two-man, father-son guild.

    Cogito ergo summopere periculosus.

I'm in a similar situation with my 14 Str (32pt build) human WC. Just can't do enough damage fast enough in solo to be really effective now at level 14. Even in groups, I feel like more of a piker than a contributor once I've sung songs. I do try to keep haste up for the melee chars, and do my best at CC and spot healing. Still, soloing is difficult now that most things hit me through my 36 AC. Will watch this thread for comments.
Once upon a time, I was part of a team, and we saved some children. That was long ago and far away, and, yes, I am that old.

-To be honest the best way of leveling a bard without str would be to roll up a str bard and respec at 20 - that would enable you to solo easier.

-When I leveled my CC Healer, I basically looked for groups I could heal and contributed that way.

-If you have enough to-hit (i.e. mediocre weapons)roll with vorpals/disruptors/smiters as general trash weapons.

-for the 2nd poster, blur/displace/stoneskin (and fortification of course) is your best defence, AC is largely irrelevant.
