Despite my years long addiction to Diablo, Diablo:Hellfire, and Diablo II -- D3 did not impress me enough to go jumping on the wagon on day 1. Cheaper used copies will start popping up on Ebay/Amazon here shortly, I'm guessing.

    Yup, will be playing.

Beta's job wasn't to impress you. It was to help them finish their product. Wasn't a commercial. Retail is totally different. You should re-visit your decision haters.

Beta was enough to show its not that new just dumbed down a good beta should impress enough to make you at least think about buying and not confirm a choice not to buy

Playing as I post this. Thought I'd have to draw a line in the sand between DDO and Diablo III, but they are two entirely different games and fill 2 separate voids for me. As I suspect, most people will stand on the love/hate side of the fence with this issue, but both easily and pleasantly coexist in my world.

Been trying to play it but the server issues make it pretty difficult. Battlenet 2.0 is an abomination, and there's no offline mode.

Will used copies work with on-line activation? I was thinking of waiting myself, but I hadn't even considered the used copy possibility.

The whole "no off line mode" is a bummer, I thought about getting it for those trips to the in-laws without internet but I guess *that* won't work

I don't think I will spend as much time as on diablo 1 & 2, but yes, using it as a backup when ddo is down could be a nice idea

Refuse to play it. Several reasons for not wanting to play, chief among them the real life $$ auction house.

    Question

Wow, some of my friends have gone nuts for this s*it

Never liked diablo, a 2 buttons action-rpg game? Must be pc-nerd stuff. At least that's what i thought when i first saw it in 1995 (iirc) when i was an "only console nerd" lol.

But what s the secret behind the online play?
Some friends say is a single player game but wikipedia says it has a multiplayer option, who's right?

And, real money auction? Wow... legal scams here they come...

I'm not playing for 2 reasons.

    1. £45.
    2. £45.

Yes, I know they are the same, but it such a good reason I thought I'd mention it twice.

Will wait for the price drop to try it out. Figuring the server issues should be fixed by then. Plus too much DDO insanity RIGHT NOW.

I'm about halfway through Nightmare. It's been pretty fun so far, though I'll admit that easily half of the enjoyment has come from reconnecting with several of my old gaming buddies who also picked up the game.

A question about something I find profoundly worrisome, though: does the loot ever graduate from the simple "chance of some random stat modifiers, and maybe a socket" model?

I realize that a lot of attempts to compare it to D2 are going to break down, especially this early into the game's lifetime, but those attempts are inevitable given how much impact the earlier installments had.

Mine is this: the loot system just feels incredibly stagnant. Buy/Grind up your gems, buy/farm up some random gear for that extra +X to your primary stat, +Y to your vitality, hopefully some extra run speed on your boots, and maybe, just maybe, an incredibly low chance to stun on your off-hand or something...and then what?

I'm hoping to see things that break this mold in the future, and I'm honestly not sure if I should.

Didn't get into the Beta but I got an e-mail from a friend with a Key thats lets me play a little trial thing so I'm downloading it as I type...probably will try out Demon Hunter and Witch Doctor first...really just waiting till payday (Friday) before I buy it...unless the trial somehow screams at me "RUN RUN AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK" :P

Oh and sidenote...Gratch you may want to change your sig now :P

Still a little ****ed I need a net connection to play I have a nice 2 week vacation coming up and I'll be up in the middle of nowhere (seriosuly its not even on the map) and there's definitely NO Inet there and Diablo 3 is one game I wanted to bring up.

I'm having a blast with it. The game may not break any new ground, but games don't have to. Above all games should be FUN and for me, this one is. Very gratifying to hit things and watch them go splat. The story is actually pretty cool and the cutscenes are epic.

My only gripe is your are forced to play online and you can't go invisible when you just want to solo; up to three friends can jump into your game anytime. This is beyond public games; if you're in a game that your friends can access (they have to have unlocked Nightmare/Hell on the character they are on to access games of that difficulty) they can jump in at any time.

I truly don't understand the reasoning behind requiring an internet connection to play the game, though.
