    Default pvp.....rules?

I'm not big on pvp, go in from time to time & mess around. My question is, what's with people & rules, no holds, no dots. Just happened to me again on my lv14wiz TR, was just messing around getting killed & what not, then I take out a lv 20 archer who kept on ranging, then the tells start. Don't hold, evertime u hold i kill u & everyone in pit blah, blah, blah. The only rule I can get with is don't go around taking out lvs much lower than u are. So just curious, am I breaking the PvP code or something with my holds & dots or u pvpr's just get po'd when a lower level utterly destroys you.

The only rule in PVP is to not to talk about PVP on the forums.

But really just ignore them. If people want to set up special rules or teams, that's what the PVP challenge is for. Taverns are FFA, and they're just QQing that their saves are low, so they can't beat you in PVP where you use your class the way it's meant too. I suggest either A: Just hold him again when he jumps back down to "kill u & everyone in pit" and have him eat his tears. or B: Fight his way by properly letting him hit you to 50% hp, then hitting him back with your staff/club because that's how he thinks PVP "should" be done.

I do have a self-imposed PVP rule though: Don't touch anyone more 2 levels lower than me unless they hit me first. If they kill me, they're fair game afterwards. If I kill them, it's still only if they hit me first.

just put in chat that the person said he was going to take everyone out by himself and see what happens to him...pvpers love braggers.

That is a good "rule" to follow!

I don't care for PvP, but there are two rules I follow when I go and do it.

#2. Anything goes. it is PvP.

    #1. Have fun.

I always chuckle when a freshly trounced pvper sends me a spelling mistake loaded /tell complaining how I used some overpowered effect that's "not cool" or "against the rules". Want me to stop using Kukan-Do, Manyshot, Otto's, or a Lit II weapon? Sorry, I really don't feel like handicapping myself so someone can feel good about beating a sub-par version of me. I'm sure most other players would feel the same way. I'd say use whatever effect you want to. If they don't like it, there's plenty of other pvpers they could pick on.

I don't always PvP, but when I do, I go by:

    1) "If its on your/my hotbar, its fair game."
    2) "Refer to 1) as necessary"

OP: This above is a good rule to follow.

Anyone entering should no better. If you want some ground rules, or a setup for a good match, I suggest they start thier own pvp instance in the private arenas.

Getting ganked in the public and turning around and spouting off rules in /tell just means you should find something else to do. IMO of course.

Easy rules to remember for PvP...

    1. If they use it to beat you...its sploitin'

    2. If you use it to beat them...its strategy

    3. If they beat you multiple times the same way...its griefing.

    4. If you beat them multiple times the same way...they need to learn how to avoid it.

Ultimately, playing PVP in this game especially is like trying to referee a fight between 3rd Graders...

Maybe remind the ranger that Freedom of Movement is on his spell list?

Yes, I don't know who sets the 'rules' but they're not clear and visible. I PVP'd once, killed somebody and then started getting lots of "what the heck are you doing" tells. Never again.

There are a few ways to get into trouble with the PvP pits.

One is taunting your opponents into the harassment range.
    Two is language filter breaking.

Now if I remember correctly, the third way is not killing your opponents. Keeping them "perma" crowd-controlled and not killing them was considered a form of harrasment that has come up before on these forums. Back then though, some of the forms of crowd control lasted much longer.
If DoTs keep damaging folks after they have left the PvP pits, I can see why that would be considered bad form.

Personally, If I'm PvPing, I am playing some other game. One built with it in mind.

    this is the DDO froums.

Some folks don't like it when you cuss. Some folks feel reporting you for any "infraction" is fair play, and fun.

Forcing folks to stay in PvP or to stop playing to get away from it, may not be the best move for friendly gm interactions. They don't seem to like it when you cause folks to quit thier game.

This is the DDO forums. DDO still has bad PvP. /shrug

I have only 1 rule for myself - others can do what they want; however on occasion I am a hypocrite in a mild sense.

    1. Never attack any level thats 3 levels lower than you (similar to another post), simply because, "whats the point?". My interpretation is that, that person really sucks and HAS to beat up on lower levels to feel good; however like I said, on occasion ill dump on a lower level but its usually because one or more of the following factors:

    1. He wont stop harranging me.
    2. Its someone I know and im effin with him
    3. Its someone I know that I am not fond of and im doing it intentionally to ilicit a prescribed response.
    4. if they happen to be in the line of fire on a manyshot where i can slay 5 people lined up. its just too hard to resist.

casters and any other class have every right to use whatever arsenol of destructin they have in my opinion.

Thank-you and the moral of the story is if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the PvP Area
