Creature Companion Stable

As far as I can tell, there are only 10 slots in the Creature Companion stable. I have 9 filled, but want to buy the Rat bundle, bringing the total to 12. What happens as far as slots go? Do they increase automatically to accommodate the extra numbers? Do I have to buy more? Or will the new companions overwrite existing ones??

There's room for more than 10, it just adds a new row if you get more than 10.
