Default Stuck on update game data

I get to the update game data and it downloaded several files and then I got an "Unspecified patch error message".
It always gets stuck downloading the same file "client.anim.dat-2546".

It downloads files for a while (I can see them appear in the \Turbine\DDOunlimited\Forward folder), where it overwrites the old ones as if it didn't know it had downloaded them, until a random moment when the downloading just stops. It stops overwriting a different file each time, usually between "client.anim.dat-2610" and "client.anim.dat-2654", the furthest it has made before stopping.

Note that even though it has downloaded "client.anim.dat-2546" it behaves as if it hadn't.

Disabling antivirus, firewall & UAC in my Win 7 changes nothing, nor does a clean boot, so I think it is just randomly losing connection for some reason, but always the same file appears to be downloading.

I had the same problem the last patch and gave up, as I was still a free player not premium like now, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the game did not fix it (nor removing and redownloading .NET).

Then after Christmas I ran the launcher again and it somehow worked even though nothing had changed in my PC.
I don't know if there is anything else that can be tried, maybe just keep trying until I get lucky like last patch.

Something different to try would be to completely install all versions of .NET and C++ from your computer, and then DON'T manually reinstall them. Launch DDO and let it be the one to automatically install .NET and C++ using its own preferences. This might let you get through the patch update. (After that, you can manually install whichever .NET and C++ versions you want to have; and then run Windows Update to patch it all.)

Are any of the DDO folders or files on your system set to read-only or write-protected?

Was the initial DDO installation done while logged onto your system as the admin, and are you logged into the same admin when you're launching DDO to patch it? I saw that you did stuff with UAC, but I wonder if Windows is being picky about how the initial DDO installation was configured.
