Default Procedure entry point could not be located...

After the update earlier this week, this error started showing up, after I've selected a server from the launcher.

"dndclient.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point GetModuleHandleExW could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll"

Been feeding google with searches half the night, without finding anything of use, so I hope you guys got some ideas.
Reinstalling the game will take many, many days for me, will not do that just yet, want to hear what people on here got to say first.

Possibly a corrupt entry in your registry. There are several free registry scanners kicking around. CCleaner is the one I've used most. Never had many issues with it and it tends to do the job OK. Would still suggest backing up your registry 1st.

    Worth a try at least

From my quick searches it would appear the problem is a broken .dll link. If it makes you feel any better, this issue is as old as windows.

Most of the solutions I found were incredibly complicated, and the simplest ones recommended wiping the program out and reinstalling. The solutions were less pretty when the issue came from a core component like IE.

    **EDIT
If you have the storage space on your computer, you could do what I do. I saw that some people actually downloaded and kept a new client installer every few updates so that if something like this happens all you have to do is reinstall and patch. Its much easier than waiting for the whole installer to be downloaded every time, which on my PC can take 45 min + patch time.

The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

    Thanks to both of you.

Tried CCleaner as you suggested Garix, nice little program, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem, the error stopped showing up, but I don't get any further. At least I got cleaned the PC a little

Guess my next step is AZgreenteas idea, reinstalling. Maybe it will help the game run a little bit better too.

KERNEL32.DLL is an essential part of Windows and has been for a long time.

Although I think reinstalling is often over-done, if it didn't take long in this case I'd recommend it, but if IS going to take a long time, I'm concerned that you might have some other issues, a corrupt windows file, etc. Which Windows OS are you running?

Did the error occur -exactly- at the time of update or might you have been hit with a virus/malware just about the same time - have you run a malware check? Have you installed or changed any hardware about the same time, anything that might make windows change its internal connections and configuration files?

If My2Cents suggestions don't work, try the steps outlined here

IIRC Kernel32.dll is one of Windows protected files. If that has become corrupt the information in the link may help to repair/replace it

Exactly at the time of the update. Haven't changed any hardware, or made any major software changes that could altar the files, I believe.

Hehe this require a CD drive, have to find one those.

Anyway, did some more research, and it looks like my PC is simply getting too old. GetModuleHandleExW is for XP and beyond, as far as I understand. Will have to find a XP install disc and try that as a temporary solution, till I can get a new PC.

Thanks for the answers everyone. This problem needs some real life effort to be solved, wish me luck

Thanks Garix - that's the main reason I asked which OS, because I didn't want to give the wrong repaid instructions!

Benneburg: I read a microsoft article that details a fix, but it a) might not be a drop-in fix (the article mentions a service pack and some other requirements) and b) we don't know if that's the only issue introduced, you could go to a lot of trouble to "repair" that particular issue and find 1,283 more.

I think your idea of using an XP OS is a much easier one...

My2Cents, would you mind sharing that site? If it can work till I get my externals back, it's worth a try.
