Default Equipment for a level 16 Cleric?

As a level 16 cleric, I'm looking to optimize my effectiveness as a healer. Can anyone recommend some equipment I should have, equipment no cleric should be without? I recently acquired the Staff of Fleshshaping, which looked like a must-have. Any other suggestions?

I liked the lvl 16 calvary plate on my cleric. plan B for armor would be to grind out some dragontouched plate but i found the calv plate had everything I needed. I have the fleshshapers armor on my bard which would also work nicely on a cleric. the arcane lore slot is pretty good and so is the reflex +10 (since you prob have low reflex like many clerics) I also like the upgraded sora katra set of fists, sight, and wit. if you melee at all the greater bold trinket is sold, or the cunning trinket for more sp. also from the cove, get a archmagi hat with +15 balance. again the balance really helps since you probably dont have the skill points to otherwise invest in that important skill. hard to cast when youre on your back.

    First life or second life?

If it's your first life, then you will outgrow your equipment faster than you can acquire it. Leveling is so fast in DDO compared to the amount of time that it takes to get "good" gear that getting your hands on some nice Bound to Account gear that you can pass from one character to another as they level is a very nice perk.

The only time that I really worry about getting the "right" gear at a particular level is on a second or later life because I've already acquired that gear during the first life - often well after I passed the level where I would want to start using that gear.

    Basically agree with this,

However, some good pieces of gear you can get, and keep - and this list is not exhaustive by any stretch -

Elf Crafted Robe/Armor - easy way to get arcane lore, costs just 9 elven relics; robe has added benefit of +2 evo focus http://ddowiki.com/page/Elfcrafted_Robe

Blue Dragon Scale Armor - hard way to get arcane lore, 20 Blue dragon scales and its yours, complete with greater arcane lore http://ddowiki.com/page/Blue_Dragonscale_Armor_(item)

Silver Flame Talism - upgraded, provides deathblock and 10 spell absorption for neg levels, etc. http://ddowiki.com/page/Silver_Flame_Talisman

Gauntlets of Eternity - Devotion, Major healing lore, not a must have, but nice when you do have it http://ddowiki.com/page/Gauntlets_of_Eternity

Minos Legens - heavy fort, toughness http://ddowiki.com/page/Minos_Legens

Pearl of Power X or Highest Power/Wizadry item you can find

Storm Reavers Napkin - Spell focus Mastery, adds +1 to your spell dc's

Helm of the Mroranon - Even if you dont wear this, look to get it and store it in the bank. The epic version is the only +7 wis item in the game. http://ddowiki.com/page/Helm_of_the_Mroranon

theres so much more stuff to add... hopefully others can add some too.

Thank you for the suggestions, ThePrincipal!

I hadn't considered this. I'm on my first life. I find a lot of really good equipment is still useful at least a couple levels above the minimum, though. Yes?

    Recommended Consumables

    • Superior Ardor Potion X (X being the highest healing spell level you can cast) - Superior Ardor is +75%, Potions are faster than clickies
    • Heal Scrolls
    • Mass Mod Cure Scrolls
    • Greater Restore Scrolls

    Non Consumables
    • Highest devotion item you can get your hands on - Does not stack with Ardor, but helps fill in gap when consuming a potion is not an option
    • Arcane Lore Item - Helps with Crits on any damage spell you cast - side benefit is crits on healing
    • Gauntlets of Eternity - The Fleshshapers Staff is nice, but sometimes its not practical to have both hands full with just a single item
    • Luminous Truth - From the Spinner of Shadows
    • Dragon Touch Robe/Vestment/Armor - Use the Three slots to Consolidate and open up gear slots for other effects
    • Bracers of Glacier <- mainly for these two effects Archmagi and the Proc of Cold Shield
    • Cloak of the WorldShaper - 5 Charges will help protect you later from Spells
    • A Torc - Demon Queen Raid -- spell point regeneration - Works best solo or when being pelted by lots of Little damage
    • A Con-Op item - This will be your Wisdom and Diplo Item as well as an SP regen - Go the HP route when creating as 45 HP is a good envestment

I absolutely do agree with that. In general, though, I don't stress about gear for the most part. Some gear I do consider essential for any character that I run. That doesn't mean that everyone *must* have it, just that I consider it essential for me.

Heavy Fortification starting as soon as you can get it. ML 9 Heavy Fort necklace is available in the free to play quest A Relic of Sovereign Past.

The best Potency item that I can get that covers the highest level spells that I will cast that actually do damage. If I can cast 7th level spells, but the only 7th level spells that I have loaded are instakills, buffs, debuffs or crowd control, then I won't worry about getting a Greater Potency VII item and I'll get a Superior Potency VI item instead. Special note: Healing spells of both the Cure and Heal variety count as "damage" for Potency items. You will do significantly more healing if you carry a Greater or Superior Potency item that covers the level of healing spell that you cast. Ardor/Greater Ardor/Superior Ardor clickies also boost your healing output. Ardor and Potency do not stack with each other.

Blade Barrier is *such* a huge spell for divine casters that I would actually consider carrying a Superior Potency VI item instead of a Greater Potency VII item and just don't cast the 7th level mass cure spell or only cast it when you have a Greater/Superior Ardor VII clicky running. Your mileage may vary.

+6 primary offensive casting stat item (Int for Wizards, Cha for Sorcs, Wis for Clerics and FvS)
    Greater False Life
    +6 Constitution
    25% or 30% striding
    Feather Falling item
...all exceptionally useful to keep you from dying.

For all of my casters, that's pretty much it. Everything else is nice to have, but those are the things that I actually put effort into acquiring as soon as I can wear them. Because of Cannith crafting, I can use my crafting character to feed items to my newly created characters. That makes an enormous difference in the level of gear that I run with compared to the level of gear that someone who just started DDO will have.
