Default Targetting Problem - Need Advice

This hasn't been much of an issue for me before, but I have recently started shadow tanking tod on my wizard and I am wondering what the best settings for targetting are. I have autotarget monster targets on, mouse soft targetting disabled and sticky fellow selection disabled. But when I am doing something like tanking shadows, with the monsters right in front of me, I can't target past them to cast spells far away. If the shadow is blocking my line of sight, the cursor turns red and I can't aim an acid fog at the stairs. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Sounds similar to my settings. You can always press G during a situation like this to temporarily disable your auto-targeting if you think that is causing your problem, to see how you fare without it. I have to do this when aiming for levers with projectiles to prevent tickling the mob scratching his head next to it.

Isn't auto targetting when the monster gets highlighted with a circle under it when you press the target next/previous keys? If I just move the mouse so that a monster is in between me and where I am aiming, the mouse cursor aim thing turns red and I can't target the ground or anything past the monster that is blocking my view. I don't have extend so I need to be able to target past the bunch of shadows that are on me to recast acid fog on the steps.

I turn on mouse look and stare straight down at the floor for shadowtanking. Obviously you have to stand in the spot that you want your spell to go.

No, that's targeting. Autotargeting will target anything in your crosshair without you having to actually target it with next/previous or right mouse. I find autotargeting to cause a lot of problems, so I turn it off.

Tough luck, you need line of sight to mouselook aim spells. You can position yourself to be able to cast still, but just use Cloudkill. It has a 1:20 duration and can't be extended. One Cloudkill before the first wave and one before the second will last the whole fight.

So I can't target past stuff at all? That seems incredibly limited and stupid to me. Why can't they just make it so there is an option 'target spells to terrain on/off' then we can choose.. how silly of them.
