Hi, community! I need help.
I have a monster of a gaming rig, and I have thoroughly enjoyed playing DDO on some of the highest detail settings available. Until last night.
I had played the Crystal Cove, and had logged out for the evening. Then, just before bed, I thought I might log back in, and fit some of the dragonshards I had won for the day into various bits of Cove gear.
I started the client, and I provided my login credentials. I clicked "Open" to load into Orien. I got the initial banner loading screen, as usual. But then, instead of getting the character selection screen, I got a wall of psychedelic pink (the one square that's "off" is where the mouse pointer was):
I have hopes that this is just a fluke, or something that can be corrected with a rogue graphics setting somewhere. Though, I'm also worried that my GeForce GTX 280 SLi card is beginning to die. The problem seems to be rearing it's ugly head more and more often, and is not as apt to "work itself out." (please pardon the term - I don't like it either, but it seems to be what the display has to do in order to work in full screen)
I have to share that this is not the first time I've seen this screen before. The time it happened before was when I had powered down my rig to take to a LAN party. After reconnecting everything and booting up, I got the pink. After about 4 reboots and a updating of the display driver, the problem "worked itself out," and I was able to play for the LAN party. However, upon returning home, I had to reboot a number of times again to get it to "work itself out."
I believe that I do have a work around: windowed mode. The character selection screen seems to come up okay if I'm in windowed mode when it begins the character selection screen. However, Alt-Entering back into full screen will bring the pink.
If anyone can provide some insight on this issue, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thank you!

Either that or your PSU is dead. Money is on the GPUs though. Sorry. I've been though this... on 3 PCs now.

Well... there is an off chance this may work.
You did say this started when you took your rig to a party.
Re seat the card, PSU, etc. Pull them out, clean it, put it back in. Do the same with your RAM also.
Also put your RAM through a checking program like memtest+ overnight. Maybe you've got a now bad stick? I've had that happen also. (not to your visual results, but millage varies.)
At this stage I'd be whimpering and going "honey.. my video card may be dying. I've got a few other things I can try, but its not looking good. A new one may cost up to $300." And set the cost a bit high, that way you can say "I found one for $150... may I get that one?" Unless she's up to date on costs of stuff also.

Normally they are in there pretty good, but normally aren't shuffled around a whole lot either. That and the chance of oxidization on the contacts can still happen. Originally Posted by Cauthey

As for the buttering, be glad you can. I keep my wife up to date on stuff as I have been trying to find a new machine for her, let alone she's good about killing mice. It is just one way I keep her in the loop with finances.

FWIW, the video card is ailing/dying. I was able to get the game to run after turning down all of the graphics settings to minimal settings. I merely wanted to share just in case someone else came to the forums with a similar problem, and needed to get their DDO fix before being able to replace their ailing graphics card.
